i did really bad freshman year. I got a D in geometry and my overall gpa was a 2.9. If i do better my next 3 yrs can i still get into a ivy league or a competitive univeristy? I really just want to know if i still have a chance.

Thanks

Well you never know, but it will be extremely difficult for you, unless the colleges you look at don't factor in forsh grades. Maybe gets some crazy hooks, and you never know.

I think passing all your high school classes is a requirement for admission into most colleges (C or better). So I don't know.

i did pass all my classes so far...

Some schools like the UC's and I think Stanford (I read this for Stanford on another thread) don't factor in your fresh GPA for admission purposes. Also some say its ok to have a poor freshman year but then steadily and dramatically improve; they say it shows maturity. Also where are u from? If ur from CA u still got a good shot at all the top UC's. I did poorly fresh year but managed to get into UCLA. Don't give up hope playa, although I don't know about that D might want to take a summer course or something.

i took geometry over this summer, im still waiting for my grade. And i dont know if i have a shot at the UC's or UCLA cuz i dont live in CA...

The well-known schools that normally don't count freshman year are Princeton, Stanford, and the University of California campuses.

This said, if you only have a 2.9 in your freshman year, you shouldn't plan on just automatically jumping to a 4.0 next year without making changes. Specifically, changes in your study habits, your friends, working with your teachers, having a study group outside of school--and having a parent or a older student to act as a mentor and help you stay on track. If I were you I'd be thinking about what I was going to change--and whether I was willing to make the short-term sacrifice to stick to these changes.

yes i do plan on jumping from a 2.9 to at 4.0 or at least in the upper 3's. I have changed my school to a better school, and a better environment and i plan to study alot. Plus, the only reason i got such a low gpa freshman yr was because of geometry.
