I did bad in high school, but good in community college. Will I still not be accepted

I did my senior year of high school at community college, so when I apply to universities in the fall, I will be applying under a transfer.

My high school GPA is a 2.3, but that was from my junior year, so the courses I took at community college probably changed it.
My SAT score was a 1230. I got in the 400's in each section. I know, it's not good, but that doesn't mean I'm not capable of doing college work, because my community college GPA is a 3.1.

I'm looking into Villanova University. It says on the website that for transfer students, a 3.00/4.00 GPA is recommended.
I'm also looking into the University of Scranton. On collegeboard it says that a minimum of 2.8 is required for transfers.

I am also looking into 3 other schools that are not as competitive as Villanova and Scranton.

Are there any chances I could get into Villanova or Scranton?

How many credits COMPLETED will you have when you transfer?

Are Villanova and Scranton affordable? Are you looking for Catholic schools? If so, there are others that will likely accept you. Is cost a concern or will your parents pay the $50k per year?

Did you see how many credit transfer you got? It differs from the other University. If they said that they want 105 credits, you must have at least 106 credits.

dude…get a 4.0

and look to the stars

i got the same S.A.T’s
same everything

and I maintained a 4.0 all four semesters

got into UNC-Chapel Hill, NYU, Vanderbilt

I was looking into Vanderbilt pr0616, but they don’t have my major!

@ the OP

As someone who just transfered out of Villanova, you will probably either need to have stellar essays and recs, or will need to know someone to get in. Your GPA is very low for Nova; remember that a CC GPA is not directly comparable to a higher calibre university.

I won’t say that your dreams aren’t capable of coming true, but your chances aren’t very high for being admitted to Villanova, so don’t get your hopes up too high.

@october

Gonna have to disagree with you, to some extent. Nova has about a 41% transfer acceptance rate which is fairly high, and while CC GPA cannot be compared to a GPA from a higher caliber institution, a lot of schools, especially private schools seek CC college students.

Apply wherever you want, if you are worried about your high school record, wait to apply for junior standing. I’m in the same boat as you, messed around during hs (had pretty much the same GPA), and I’m applying to Cornell’s ILR, granted I’m applying as a junior, have good EC’s, and my gpa is 3.69 (3.79 after next semester). My advice, get your GPA a bit more.

what would you say to someone with a 3.1 HS GPA, 1800 SAT but so far a 3.5 GPA in college and expect to do even better this semester. My top Choice is Villanova and I attend Seton Hall. However, my HS GPA is that low because freshman year I got a 2.5 and went up from there.

to OP:
Don’t worry so much about your high school record and SAT scores. Once you have completed more than 30 credits colleges won’t care much about them. I was a bad high school student as well. I had an SAT score of 1010 in math and reading combined. Ranked 219/294. I am about to start my fourth semester at a community college and so far has maintained a 4.0 through 50 credits. I have gotten many offers from universities like Cornell, Tulane, St. John, Maryland, Texas Tech, Lehigh, and other decent/great colleges.

Keep your GPA high and you will have a good chance of transferring. Just keep in mind also that Villanova require SAT scores for transfer students.

To Pr0616:
Great that you maintained a 4.0 but the way you said made it seem like you majored in something like knit-sewing

Try to major in chemistry like me
To Jeffm2010:
Again just keep your GPA high and transfer as a junior. You will have a good chance. Don’t forget to take the SAT also for villanova.

To dazednconfused:
The october kid is just trying to make it hard for the OP since he went to Villanova
You must be rich to have applied to cornell  I was thinking of going there but changed my mind after looking at the cost :(

Hello All,
I have taken my SAT’s many many moons ago. Is it possible to retake them?

You could just start your own thread next time. :P

But, yeah. Just go register on the College Board website and take them. Depending on your situation however you might not want to. It’s more important to have current good grades than retaking the SAT’s. Many times SAT’s are optional or not even wanted at certain institutions after earning a certain amount of credits.

Lol texas tech? you only need a 2.25 to get in…
