I did not get into Rutgers... :(

I came home to find a Rutgers letter in the mail today. I hurried to open it, but to my dismay, I read that I was not accepted into the business school.

I am instate and have 2040 SAT and my GPA is higher than the average needed to get into Rutgers. I am from a very competitive high school, and out of the 147 applicants from my school, only 38 have gotten in.

I am applying to UIUC, Indiana Bloomington, Binghamton, UT Austin, Penn State, and UW Seattle.

Can somebody please explain to me what went wrong?

Business School is far more selective than the other colleges in the system, probably.

Your other schools on your list are cooler anyways, don't stress...what's done is done

AARGH!!!

Now I have to apply to another in-state school because I got duped from my safety...

Maybe NJIT will let me in lol.

so you're from NJ? I read somewhere that Rutgers takes only a certain % of people from the counties in NJ. Which one are you from?

Your stats are great, so I wouldn't worry. You're definitely going to get into a school, and I'm sure it will be one of your other choices. There probably is no concrete explanation for why you weren't accepted. College admissions are a bit of a throw of the dice. You never know quite what they're looking for from year to year. Just keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure you have an acceptance letter in your (near) future!

What happened is probably the hardest year in history to get into competitive colleges, lots applying to state schools because of the economy and business schools being in vogue. Sorry for your pain!

Your moniker belies you, good sir.

Maybe there was an application goof. I'd have a hard time imagining that someone with a 2040 could get rejected by Rutgers.

Hey, don't stress about it; it's a weird year for admissions and it seems you're not the only one with unexpected results (38/147 is shocking!) I'm sure it doesn't have to do with anything YOU in particular did wrong.
But you seem to have great stats from a numeric point of view, so just stay optimistic that you'll hear good news in April.
Good luck! :)

"Your moniker belies you, good sir."

Ha, great post.

The Optimist, I am surprised that you didn't get accepted, but it's far from the end of the world to not get into Rutgers. I think you'll definitely still get into Indiana.

I think Binghamton is also a pretty safe bet as well.

Admission's offices do look at more than just your numbers. Did you take AP classes? Did you have leadership positions? Did you have strong EC's? How about Community Service?
Do you have employment experience? Any awards or recognitions?

They're looking for the total package and with such a strong applicant pool, it can be difficult to make your application stand out among the others.

That's really weird. Plus, you applied before the priority deadline, right? So it shouldn't have been that selective, but eh, like someone else had said, you have cooler schools on your list. I definitely think you'll get into Indiana (and their business school is pretty sick) and Penn State with your stats. Don't worry about it.

I have an executive role in Robotics (sub team captain) and I volunteer 3 hours a week. I don't work however. I have taken AP classes (Chem, US History, and all that work!), and Honors English and Bio/Physics, etc. Also, I have done all the math classes at my high school except BC calc (I took statistics last year alongside calc, and taking discrete this year as well).

MEH.....I got unlucky I guess...My friend (from last year) did not get accepted into Rutgers, but he got into NYU and his other schools.

THANK YOU ALL FOR RESPONDING, AND GOOD LUCK!

Keep your spirits up. You might consider adding another safety or two. The competition out there is tough.

Good luck.
