For my freshmen year of high school, I felt that there was a lot of adjusting to do and so I didn’t do as well as I feel like I could. It really has been on my mind lately and I keep thinking about how I messed up. Does this affect my chances into getting an Ivy League school? My first term final unweighted average was a 95.3 and my second term unweighted average was a 96, so I have a total unweighted avg of 95.6 roughly.
I would like to know if this affects my chances on getting into an Ivy League? Could this affect me if I do early decision?
For my school, every assignment is graded out of 100. So you can get a 85 on a test and it will be added in to your total average. Some assignments weight more than others, such as tests. There is like a percentage my grade is made up of. Such as:
…Dude, unless there’s something I’m not getting about your school’s grading policy, that’s a 4.0 unweighted average (90-100 is 4.0). That’s the best possible average you can get. Even if your school gives under a 4.0 for what they deem an A- (usually a 93 or below), you still have a 4.0.
You’re doing perfectly fine. Don’t stress about it.
I’m not really sure but I have a feeling my school would make my 95 avg into a 3.8 because a lot of people have over a 95 average… it doesn’t make sense for them to just give all of them a 4.0? I feel burnt out because in the bad of my head, I know I would have definitely had a 97.8 or something, which is like a 3.9 GPA if this event that happened this freshmen year didn’t happen. I feel like I won’t ever get over it because I was so close.
I think you’ll be okay. It’s much better to mess up freshman year and show an upward trend from then on, but you didn’t really mess up. 3.8 or better is usual for ivies, so you are absolutely in range. Keep up the great work!
