I submitted my Columbia app in early December, but have not yet received an interview... should I keep waiting or contact them?

Since you did request an interview, I would say you should follow-up to make sure there has been no miscommunication and to emphasize your interest. Do bear in mind that Columbia plainly states that not every request for an interview can be accommodated and not having an interview will have no bearing on your admission/rejection. (So try not to sweat it. :))

Is this flame, or are you just talking out of your a--?

You cannot request interviews at Columbia. If there is an available interviewer near you, they will assign you and notify you. There is nothing you can do.

What are you talking about? THIS is what Columbia plainly states:

[quote]
The earlier you submit Application for Admission I of your application, the better your chances are for an alumni interview. If the Alumni Representative Committee is able to offer you an interview, you will be contacted directly by an ARC member...Because the actual assignment of interviews is not conducted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, please do not call or write to inquire about receiving an interview.

Topeka, did you submit both parts in December?

I submitted my app in very late December, and I got an email about an interview.

But then again, I live in NJ. Chock full o' Columbia alums.

I think it really just depends on where you live.

I haven't gotten an interview and I live in CT and submitted my app in mid November. Oh well... i don't like interviews anyway.

This:
[QUOTE]
Candidates who are not offered an interview are not at any disadvantage in the admissions process.

and this:

[QUOTE]
However, because we have a finite number of alumni volunteers to interview the many thousands of candidates who will apply for admission, we are unable to grant interviews to all of our applicants and can provide absolutely no guarantee that an interview will be available in any given area.

are more what I had in mind, CU2012.

Columbia2002, I do not flame.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure it was clear that you couldn't request an interview.

I submitted both parts in early Dec. I think there are Columbia interviewers where I live though, since my friend applied Early Decision and got an interview.

Well if there aren't many RD applicants in your area, then you will most likely have an interview if your friend had one. I don't know what the time line is for the RD round, though, because I was Early Decision. From what I understand, interviewers are given the contact information, but they do have to work around their schedule as well. I submitted part 1 in August and was emailed the first week in November by my interviewer. Good luck!

Then you're plainly taking out of your a-- with the first sentence of your post. Why would you even attempt to render advice to someone?

C02, this is the kind of post i'm talking about - where providing the correct information rather than posts composed entirely of biting, personal criticism would be much more helpful.

Topeka, where are you physically located (for school)? Kansas?

haha no actually I am located in Southern California. I just like Topeka, Kansas since it was once the site of much controversy prior to the Civil War.

we get a lot of applicants from southern cal. hang in there.

a lot of applicants get assigned to interviewers but the interviewers take a while to call the applicants - for real life / scheduling reasons. I don't know if the admissions office can reveal this, but there's a chance if you called up and asked, "I was calling to see if the ARC has assigned me an interviewer, or whether I'm still unassigned for an interview", they might be so surprised by the specificity of the question that they'd actually go answer it for you. On the other hand they may not want to risk embarassing the alumni guy by telling you you've got a guy assigned to you, who then flakes and never calls. I give it 25% odds they'll tell you - but if it's really bugging you it's worth a call.

Otherwise just wait-and-see. no harm can come to your application, trust me.

I submitted my application for RD in September and I have still not received a call! Are there no alumni in the Houston area??

Maybe they haven't got around to calling you. Maybe there are way more applicants than alums. Nothing you can do.
