i got a 730 on my US History SAT 2, yet i got a 3 on the AP exam.
what the heck? i don't understand how that happened.
fml.
any similar stories?

i think the ap exam is more analytical and the satII was more facts. i got a 720 on satII but a 5 on the ap exam

but i had good, specific actual information in my essays. i would’ve thought i’d at least get a 4.

The two tests are different. The SAT II doesn’t have any written components so it’s more memorizing, while the AP is more analytical.

I got a 5 on the AP, but only a 710 on the SAT II.

caitylin is right. I got a 5 on world history and only a 730 on the SAT II.

Eh, I wouldn’t say that they are two completely different tests - there is definitely a correlation. You probably went wrong somewhere in the essays. Remember essays count for 50% of the AP exam.

6442,

How did you do on AP English? There might be something in your writing style that the graders do not like. This is something to think about as you write essays for college admission.

Not to criticize your work sight unseen, but if you had the facts right something about the presentation PO’ed the graders.

Cool, me too! Except for that I was so happy with a 710. =]

I got a 750 on my U.S. History Subject Test but only a 4 on my AP Test…

^GAH now you’re scaring the crap out of me. i’m pretty happy with my 760 (strangely, it’s a 93-94 percentile but numerically one of the lowest SAT scores i’ve gotten) but i’m gonna be devastated if i get a 4 D: especially since i loved ap ush so much!

I got a 770 and a 5.

I got a 780 on WH and a 3 on the AP exam. They lost my FRQ booklet but didn’t claim to do so a year after the 2008 AP exam (I found out this March 2009 after incessantly requesting an explanation for not having received my ordered FRQ booklet). So yea I got a 7 dollar refund and that’s all. I’m sure my FRQ score wasn’t accounted in or I misbubbled MC. Sigh…

CollegeAddiction that is tough. A friend of mine never got his World History score since they f’d up (not that he’s likely to have done well, but still). Idk what made my score so low. maybe they couldn’t read my writing since it is very messy. i really don’t know why.
and BigG, i haven’t taken AP english yet. i’m taking it this year though. my old english class was with people who barely knew how to write so my essays looked amazing in comparison when in reality they suuuuuck.

6442: you might’ve screwed up on your details. you might’ve written out of the time period…there are a bunch of factors. idk if youreally thought you did that well you may want to rescore it.

Collegeaddiction: that sucks! i would want a rescore…or is it too late?

6442: If an AP Grader could read my handwriting, then I’m sure he or she would not have trouble reading yours. You can always call AP Services and request them to rescore the multiple choice portion.
Also, it looks like I should have taken the SAT II in US History: I received a 5 on the respective AP examination.

all you" I got a 5 and ONLY 7xx" …
do you know what a 5 means? it’s a HUGE range from 100-70% ±…

SAT II doesn’t work like that. Grades drop fast there :p

The SAT 2 is definitely more fact based–knowing the locations of things, what year, etc. The AP test takes a more indepth look. My APUSH teacher hates the subject test and didn’t prepare us at all for it. I got a 680, but a 5 on the AP.

6442, im in the same boat as you. im really mad that i got a 3 on the test. im not gonna compare it with the sat 2 since its two different tests. but i did take a practice AP exam with essays and all and got a 5. i had the highest score in the test as well and when i left the ap test, i thought that test was cake. i was confident that was a 5. now im wondering if i should ask for a rescore or if it was a simple mistake on the MC part where i accidentally skipped answers. my essays were pretty good but im not sure it was that…

socal and addiction:

My D in same boat. 750 SAT II and a “3” on A/P. Got a 780 SAT ENG and a 5 on A/P Eng…which makes me ASSUME the essays on Apush were OK. Felt VERY confident after APUSH test. And only got 4’s in 9th and 10th grade.

But…who knows? Different readers, ya know. If anything, according to all said on here…I’d think she’d do BETTER on the SAT II because she is more of a “rational” thinker not a date memorizer (SAT 2210, ACT 34). But…who knows? We’re rescoring…just for the heck of it. Might as well. Can’t cry over spilt milk. But I do wish they’d provide more scoring detail. Would help one learn from their mistakes. Makes me question why they want to hide the essay versus MC scores.

…ooops…I meant I thought she’d do BETTER on the A/P since you say it’s more analytical (not SAT because you say it’s more fact based). Maybe she takes after her Mother in proofreading skills!
