Hi Guys,
I’m a rising senior in high school and I will be taking honors physics this year, but I didn’t take it previously in my high school career.
Will this hurt my chances of admission? Especially the fact that I didn’t take AP only honors? Or will I be okay since I’m at least taking honors physics?
I want to go into computer science/engineering… please let me know!
also if it helps, these are the science courses I have taken:
- Honors Biology (A)
- Honors Chemistry (A)
- AP Chemistry (A)
- AP Environmental Science (A)
- Honors Physics (will be taking…)
Hello!
Are you able to take the AP test? At my school, there was only an honors option for both years of physics, but you may take the AP test, regardless.
You’re taking it this year. So why are you worried? It’s not uncommon for students to take their science courses in different sequences from one another. In terms of the level of the course what matters, assuming you’re applying to selective colleges, is whether or not you’re taking the “most” rigorous courses offered at your high school. One AP more or less does not make your coursework rigorous or not. It’s the whole picture and it’s in the context of what and how many AP courses your high school offers. Ask your college counselor how he will categorize your overall coursework to the colleges you apply.
Ok thanks! I was just worried that I didn’t get a chance to take AP. @fogcity
You can’t worry about the past. It counts as one year of science.
No, I’m not! But that’s cool that your school does that. @labmedicine
@ineedhelpyo I agree with all the comments above. You’re still taking it, and depending on the school, they may require subject tests, and generally for those, Math Level 2 and a science is needed. If you haven’t taken those, I suggest you do.
Best of luck!
High school physics is the typical recommended prerequisite for physics in college. What are you worried about if you will be taking high school physics in high school?
No, don’t be worried at all. A lot of engineering students don’t take AP Physics (including me). I took AP chem instead… like you.
