My dream school is Emory, and they recommend SAT Subject, but I didn't take them! I'm planning to take them on January 25, but when I emailed them, they said that all sat/sat subject scores should be all turned in by the application deadline which is January 15. There's really no point in me taking the subject tests then...since they won't even look at it. I know it's not required, but I feel like almost everyone took SAT subject tests..I have a decent SAT score, and I'm planning to take one again in december, so do I have a chance? These are my credentials.

SAT Score:

Critical Reading: 700
Math: 660
Writing: 700
=2060

Cumulative GPA: 3.5 UW

Extracurricular:
Student Council (Vice President of entire HS)--12 grade
Helping Hands Charity (Secretary)--11, 12 grade
Math Honor Society--12 grade
National Honor Society--12 grade
Prom Committee (Head of Promotions)--11, 12 grade
Varsity Volleyball--12 grade
Varsity Basketball--10, 12 grade
Band (trumpet player)-9th grade
Book Club--11 grade

My school is a small, international private school so we don't have a variety of clubs, these were what I could do.

I already have 2 super good teacher recommendations
and I think my essay is pretty good too. So do i even have a chance? :/

You could take them in December instead of retaking the SAT, where your score is decent. If you’re really worried, you could try to see if you can take the ACT instead of the SAT, then take the SAT Subjects one week later…
I suppose it’ll matter less if you’re full pay

the December test is already in about 1 1/2 week and I don’t think I can change the test to a subject test. Even if i do change it to a subject test, I haven’t studied for it so…I have no option. The ACT deadline for december is passed too…Does it matter that much that I didn’t take the subject tests? Could I still get in?

You’ll be at a disadvantage and Emory is highly selective, so, yes, it’ll be a problem. It doesn’t mean zero chance, but very low chances. In addition, would you need financial aid?
Call College Board ASAP and ask if you can switch from SAT Reasoning to Subjects.
See if you can do standby testing (there’s still time but not much)

Or just go ahead and take the SAT on Dec 14 and keep your fingers crossed.
If any sophomore or junior is reading this: ALWAYS check the admission requirements of your favorite and safety schools junior year at the latest.

I should rephrase, they said I could turn it in, but there’s a chance that the admissions people already have reviewed my application and they have not seen my subject test score…

Are my chances really that low? They recommend subject tests but they don’t REQUIRE it.

when admissions are selective and they say they “recommend” something, it means “do it unless you won a Nobel Prize or are an Olympic athlete or your parents donated the science building”. You’ll be compared to students with subject scores. You won’t have any. They have way more qualified applicants than they can take. Who do you think will be cut? Of course it depends on how exceptional your application is, but all things being equal, if you’re qualified (say, top 25% stats, above-average-for-Emory-admission GPA, well-written essay, decent recommendations) and others have SAT Subjects with scores in the 700’s, and you don’t… they’ll assume either you took them and scored horribly, or didn’t take them because you’re disorganized and didn’t see the checklist, or are so self confident you thought you didn’t need them.
So, keep your expectations very low.
I would suggest taking them this December (unless you’re not ready), taking the SAT again in January and keeping my fingers crossed, or the reverse if you truly haven’t prepared for the SAT Subjects (scoring in the 500s will not help you).

Your GPA and SAT scores are not good enough for you to be a competitive applicant at a top tier school like Emory without SAT IIs.

I would take the subject tests and send them in anyway. They definitely won’t see them if you never take them or send them in.
