I do not try hard enough.

I am a junior in high school and I realize that junior year can have a everlasting impact on one's chances for college.

But I just dont try hard enough. I am taking 3 Aps and 2 honrs along with one regular. I just dont apply myself correctly in a way and I slack off when I get off from pratice and just sit around and talk on AIM for a few hours. I keep telling myself that I will do the homework soon but I never wind up to it.

So then I get tired and just hit the sack. And then I have the scramble to do my homework in the morning on my way to school. My grades are a good reflection of my poor efforts.

I have 1 A, 4 Bs, and a C last semster and I am trying to have straight As this semster. Its very possible, my classes are not hard. But I just get tired and slack off. I just can not seem to find any motivation for the classes.

I keep telling myself that I want to succedd in school and I want to go to a top tier college, but at this rate, I dont know what I am doing with my life.

Please help, I am so lost and confused.

Motto.

Well it's almost as bad as trying too hard, like I do. I beat myself to death sometimes with this work for hours and hours to make sure I do well on every single thing and it just gets exhausting after a while. I am so tired of trying to be perfect when a) I know I am not and b) it doesn't really matter whether I have a 3.5 vs. a 4.0. But I do it anyway. Why? I am not sure, lol.

All it takes is some discipline. And discipline comes from within. So get off of that AIM for a few hours and get everything done. Or take small breaks in between while doing work (like I am right now). Only you can develop the necessary discipline for school.

could you maybe ask your parents to take you to the local public library where you might be more motivated to do work? environment can have a lot to do with it. if you have your bed, the phone, aim, and a tv all in the area where you do hw, i can understand why you'd pick those things over hw. i always did, except then i'd get up at 4 a.m. to finish everything, kicking myself for it. do you have a longterm goal? i had a first-choice school i knew i could get into if i tried hard enough, and that's how i forced myself to get out of bed. maybe if you have something similar, or set up a reward system for yourself - "if i study with no distractions for 2 hours, i can chat on aim for half an hour." or whatever. get your parents to help!
also, there's tons of downtime in high school. if you're bored in class one day or you have a free period, get started on that night's hw so there's less to do at home.

yea i LOVE to do homework at the library...i get homework done so fast. Plus it's easier to study.

First things first: set a goal for yourself, something that will motivate you to sit down and hit the books( it could be a university, a specific test etc)
Sometimes when I have tons of work I feel overwhelmed and I procrastinate just to avoid startin ( which is always the hardest part), i dont know if this happens to you, but if it does try doing one thing at a time and you'll se how time flies by.
DONT do your HW in front of the TV, computer, whatever.
Give yourself small breaks..do 45 min of work and go the kitchen eat, chat for 15min on AIM and then head back to do more work.
Study/work with music, it makes it much more enjoyable....thats about it, good luck

Yeah, I do hw in front of my computer.......so I am tempted to go off somewhere or repond to an email, etc.....

Argh...

i have pretty sloppy homework habits.
i try to get it done in class if i can.
then theres lunch, i get some done there too.

at home, i tend to forget about homework, either because I'm reading another interesting book, watchin tv, or out playing tennis,

oh yeah, surfing the CC forums =D.

i am very disorganized, but i manage i guess.
it's best to do as much as possible before you walk in the door from school. its very hard to concentrate at home.

*Don't let yourself be distracted (this takes some practice in resistance)
*Get into study habbits that work very well for you

i know it might not sound like this would be a great idea, but your classes might be too easy. if you are like me, when things are easy, i tend to put them off for no real reason. if your classes don't challenge you or force you to think much differently than you have been, the only reason to do well is to have good grades. and grades are just numbers.

if you are in challenging classes that demand effort and thought, your world is entirely different. you want to do well because there is more of "you" involved in the class, and so your grade actually has personal meaning and life is better.
