I'm a white male from rural Georgia (about an 1 1/2 hours southeast of Atlanta). My family makes around 50k a year. I'm gay (if that helps?).

I attend a ho-hum public school; I'm third in my class out of 260. My unweighted GPA is 3.98; my weighted GPA is 4.4 or 4.5 (can't remember specifics right now).

I got a 4 in AP Human, a 4 in APUSH, a 5 in AP Lang, a 5 in AP Gov, and the other tests are pending.

ECs - I'm editor of the yearbook (have been since junior year), president of Gavel Club (which derives from Toastmasters International), founder and president of Politically Active Students (we decided to go beyond Young Dem/Repub and create an organization for free discussion; we recently, however, endorsed our local Democratic candidate), president (and founder, or at least the person who started it up) of National English Honor Society, and I was recently an intern at a local fashion magazine in a college town near us. I am a member of the National Honor Society and the Youth Advocacy Board, a group composed of the best students from around the county who advocate for local teens. I recently spearheaded a campaign to end abstinence education in our county and get people involved in discussion about contraception. I also hold a part-time job as a host/waiter at IHOP.

I attended the Georgia Governor's Honors Program in Communicative Arts, am an AP Scholar with Honor, and won a regional Silver Key in Poetry for the Scholastic Arts & Sciences Competition. I also received a full scholarship from CNN to attend the Georgia Journalism Academy. I also frequently publish for Huffington Post Teen.

I'm confident in both my essays and teacher recommendations. :)

I hope to major in English/creative writing and international studies, and possibly minor in gender studies. I want to continue writing (and possibly venture into journalism), but I'd also like to work in international affairs and focus on sexuality, health, and access to contraception in developing nations.

Can you chance me for Oberlin, Macalester, Columbia, Brown, UChicago, Swarthmore, Emory, and UPenn? I chance back! :)

You are a strong candidate for your top schools but those schools are so tough that one cant assume anything is likely. Id say keep doing what you are doing. You look good:

Oberlin-likely
Macalester-likely
Columbia-possible
Brown-possible
