Wow after reading everyone else's "Chance Threads" and their resume, now I am thinking that I have a VERY low chance of getting into GWU.
I am still not sure if it is safe to put my information on this site, but I will anyways because~
One of the reasons that I don't want to put it one here because mine could be identified easily~~by the people who will be reading my essay~and that might affect me? I dunno~

Okay
Mine wouldn't all that specific and stuff, but pretty much include all.

GPA, unweighted 3.5~ I have gotten better grades every year and taken more difficult courses.
ACT, 28
Classes took and taking: AP Physics, AP Calculous AB, AP Stats

Awards:
Most Improved Award by my school for student who improved the most both acdemically and athletically; got it during my sophmore year.
EC:
Varsity Basketball 3 years
Varsity Soccer 2 years ( This year basketball and soccer are combined into 1 season, So I picked Basketball because it is something I have passion for)
Piano
Basketball Coach for YMCA

Recs:
Supposedly, they are good. But I guess that is what all the teachers tell us? Actually one of my rec teacher offered to write one for me.

Supplement Essay
I visited the Campus and Have good reasons why I want to go to GWU.

School Applied to
Business School
EDII

Note:
I came to the States in 2003 with 0 English.
So I have been here for 5 years.
(Yes I have mentioned it in my essay, but not in a begging tone.)

So what do you think? I am so worried because I have seen people who got in have SO MUCH BETTER GRADES and SCORES...
So what are my chances?

you've visited the school, at least
so that should boost your chances
and you're doing ED 2
so that should further boost your chances

don't worry i think you have a good chance.
with that being said, there ARE alot of qualified applicants out there, so if you can really show your interest to go to gw, i think you'll be fine!

good luck :)

^edited to change the smiley face from :D into something with less ...teeth !

If it's obvious to the admissions committee you WANT to go to GW, and your essays showed you would benefit from GW and knew what made it unique, then you have a good chance.

GW's admissions seems to be "holistic" (read: weird, crapshoot, psycho, &c); that is, they tend to admit students who they think will enroll in their institution, while often rejecting students who (rightly or wrongly) they think have only put GW as a safety, and are going to a better school.

While many people have gotten in with much better tests and scores, many, many people are rejected.... with much better scores than you! Check out last year's RD decisions thread, and you'll see that a lot of kids with your scores got in, much to the dismay of many 4.0, 2400 students who were rejected.

In short, the scores you might think are "mediocre" (they're not), might actually be to your benefit at GW if they think it's the best school you're applying to.

GW's admissions policy doesn't have anything to do with whether admissions thinks GW is the "best" school you're applying to. "Best" is a relative term. GW admissions decisions have to do with whether GW feels you will bring qualities and experiences with you that will add to the GW community and whether the admissions committee feels you will take advantage of the wonderful resources the school has to offer. If you can show these things in your application then you will be seriously considered. Admissions is very good at sifting through the applications and eliminating those that were hastily put together and show little true interest in GW. You might have a 2400 SAT and 4.0, but submit a cookie-cutter, lifeless application to GW.

I spent lots of time on the supplement essays and truely want to go to GWU. I even visited the campus during the summer, coming from west coast~ and stay at George Washington Inn..I think that is the name of the Inn. I loved the Campus there and the dorm, the food, city, foggybottom, metro. I definately just didn't hastily put together this application considering that I am Early II lol.

I am worried because of my low GPA and Low ACT score.

So..Yeah I hope I can get in :) Anyone knows if the first semester of Senior grade is very important? Just wondering Not that i am gonna slack off.

Just because we give you an opinion, we are NOT the adcoms, therefore, you all have a chance until proven the opposite. There have been cases that the student is overqualified, and they may not offer a place to that student, for he/she may consider GW as a safety. The opposeite may happer. I wish you all luck, and remember everybody has something special to offer to the school, that may match what the school is looking for at that specific year. Good Luck!
