I’m a rising senior and I have 3 credits (having taken 2 science courses during sophomore year), including an AP course, in science. This year I dropped out of a science class the second week because it was too horrible to bear. The problem is, because of conflicting course schedules next year, I won’t be able to take a science class. Will this be a problem in college admissions? Most schools recommend 4 years in each core subject, so this serves as a worry for me.
Can you graduate with just 3 science credits? I agree that you should be worried about college admissions.
Depends upon which schools you are targeting. If you have taken Bio/Chem and Physics, you should be Ok.
@txstella I can graduate with 7 math and science credits in total, I already fulfilled them. My GPA is good, though…would it be OK?
@Gumbymom My major is going to be English, but I only have Pre-AP Bio, Chem, and AP Bio…would colleges understand a conflict in class scheduling (it’s a small school, limited options) or would it be a possible loss in college admissions?
Look at the requirements/recommendations for HS coursework of schools you are interested in and you will find your answer.
Your GC can address this on the Secondary School Report.
That’s not going to help you.
Anyway, it really depends on the college. If you can make your application stand out in other ways, it might help. Not having 4 years of science isn’t, IMO, as problematic as not having physics, but foe many schools that won’t be an issue. Good luck.
