I don't have a chance for Ivies, do I?

OK, a college adviser told my parents that Ivy League schools are realistic for me, but I just don't see it. What do you think?

OK I know my resume is decent, but I dont know if its Ivy level. UPenn would be my dream school for so many reasons, but I just dont think I can get in, but I dont have to go to an Ivy. Id love to go to a college on the level of Georgetown, BC or UVA, but I will need merit aid bc my parents barely dont qualify for financial aid, so a more realistic option would be a school like Northeastern or George Washington

What do you guys think? Also, any other schools that would match if I want to go into Economics/Political Science?

You have as much of a chance as the next guy, but remember, there are tons of kids out there with your stats that you will be competing with. Apply to Ivies, but also have several matches, and at least one safety that you love.

Are you looking for a self-esteem boost? A college adviser knows much more than a random on CC. If they say you have a shot, take it.
My advice: Don’t be an idiot. Apply to matches / safeties.

@Knockaround I think that the comments from the college adviser were more sales pitched-based bc she makes more when my parents think I can go to better schools. And as for the self-esteem boost, CC would definitely not be the place for that

I think it’s feasible depending on how you present yourself.

Like other people are saying, apply to a wide range of schools. Shoot for Ivies, but also have some matches/safeties lined up.

Knockaround- a college adviser is going to say whatever the parents want to hear in order to build their business.

Goray3 was smart to check here, so he/she could get a reality check.

I may have misunderstood. When I think of “college adviser” I think of the free one at my local high school. Knowing that yours has a business and therefore, an ulterior motive, it makes sense for you to want to get a reality check.

If you don’t have a chance, half of the people on here who are applying to the Ivies don’t either. Why are a few $70 application fees holding you back?

I don’t understand how a college advisor makes more $$$ by encouraging a kid to apply to schools that they don’t feel they have a legit chance at. Isn’t in their best interest to keep things real and develop a list of schools with the highest possible chance of acceptance?
