No one in my family is religious, so therefore I am not. However, I have a couple of very religious friends, and they have opened me up to the idea of it. Most of my friends are attending a UC, which I hear a majority are big public party schools. I think I want to attend a smaller school. And a couple of Christian colleges have really interested me. However, I don’t know if I would be allowed in or if I would fit in, in such an environment. Thanks!
You don’t know if you will fit in or be admitted in a UC school. Why don’t your visit the smaller colleagues and even the Christian colleges and see if you can see yourself being successful in that environment. Good thing is that you are in charge here, you get to make the decision!
Visit them and decide. You can apply to all kids of schools, then decide.
Some Christian schools are geared specifically to students who are already Christians. Other Christian schools are open to both Christians and non-Christians, but will usually have some rules of conduct that everyone must obey.
Some schools were founded on Christian principles but are no longer following them.
Some Christian schools have moderate rules regarding alcohol, sex, drug use and smoking. There are a few schools that have extreme rules about girls wearing long dresses and couples not able to even hold hands.
Quite a wide variety of Christian schools are out there, and I encourage you to visit some of them. Don’t judge every Christian school with just one visit to one campus.
I attended a Christian school and enjoyed it. My D attends a school that was founded as a Christian school but no longer follows the Christian tradition.
Read the college website to learn if you have to write a personal statement of faith to attend. Be honest about what you do and don’t believe. And ask questions about if they require mandatory chapel attendance and any required bible classes.
There are some good and some not so great Christian schools out there. If you want to share your stats and what part of the country you want to attend college in, folks can suggest some schools for you to consider .
I like some schools that were founded as christian universities, but I am jewish so I dont know how that would come into play? Some of the supplements have a lot to do with christianity and belief in god and I’m not sure I can answer authentically.
Well, you probably want to avoid colleges with mandatory chapel and creeds/ pledges you must sign before you enroll.
Keep in mind there’s two types of christian schools. There’s the type that makes you sign a contract promising good christian behavior and threatening expulsion if you do things like drinking, having sex, etc. That does not sound like a school for you. However, as an open minded person you might find it interesting to have the “wholesome” education that a Jesuit college might provide. There’s colleges that are technically christian like USD, and they make you take a few religion courses, which if you’re interested in, would be great. There’s fantastic schools all over the US that have some religious requirements that don’t go overboard.
