I have been to 5 different colleges (played 3 different sports at these schools) I am in good standing 4 out of 5 of these schools. At the fifth school I owe about 7000 because I dropped my classes because of a death in the family and left the state for a few months. I just applied to my 6th college but left the 5th college out of the list schools that I have attended.

I have a 3.4 combined gpa at the other four schools, and I am still am transferring in 60 hours to the 6th school so the hours i earned at the 5th school wouldnt be counted anyway so I dont need the transcript.

Is there a way that the college that I just applied to could find out about this college I owe money to? Will this mess up my financial aid? I have already attended a community college and recieved financial aid from there, but I am still concerned since this is on a much larger scale. Should I even be worried?

Would they not accept me for that?

For owing one of your previous colleges $7000?

Yes, I am afraid so. Because when you apply, you affirm that you are providing the colleges you’re applying to all your academic records. If you ignore the college that you owe money to, you’ll be lying on your application, which would be grounds for rejecting you (or for expelling you if it’s discovered after you’ve enrolled). And if you don’t ignore that college you owe money to, you’ll need to send a transcript, which the college won’t do until the debt is settled.

I’m sure this isn’t the answer you want, but I think you’re pretty stuck until you resolve that debt.

Yeah, I hate that I cant pay it right now, I would avoid all of this mess, and I dont need all of this mess on my credit. Work hard my whole life, and it comes to this one split second decision that puts a halt on everything. Crazy. Thanks though.

Curious : why so many colleges ?

I played basketball at my first college, had a bad injury, recovered came back played football at another school, wasnt happy playing football so I turned to track, I never stopped going to school was always enrolled part time. While I was going to rehab I went to a community college, and went to a different community college after I left the school I owe the money to…Very complicated lol.
