I don't know if will get into the colleges I applied to!!!!!

I live in PA and I’m a hispanic girl, I play soccer and I’m in various clubs, my SAT score was 950 out of 1600 and my GPA is a 3.14. I applied to a variety of schools but I don’t think that I will get into any of them, when applying I put down history as what I what to major in. If anyone knows my chances of getting into any of these schools please comment.

  1. Alabama
  2. Florida State
    3.University of Florida
  3. Pittsburg- I got in but not the main campus if any suggestions on how to switch that would be great (do I call the admissions director???)
  4. South Carolina
  5. University of Virginia
  6. University of Charleston
    8.Rutgers

Your SAT score is pretty low, so it might be hard to get into some of those colleges like Rutgers. There’s not much you can do at this point except maintain your GPA so you don’t get rescinded. You have a good chance at Southern Carolina and Virginia; I don’t know much about the other schools, so I can’t say

@epictaco99

? This student has virtually no chance of getting into Virginia. Doubtful for So Carolina and Florida as well.

When did you apply to Alabama? Your SAT is low, but Bama might admit you with their Crimson Edge program (a special admit program for those with stats issues).

Can your parents afford all of these OOS publics?

I answered on your other thread, but I forgot to mention: I don’t think you have any chance of getting your campus changed for UPitt. You can try contacting the Admissions office, but it probably will not do any good. Their concern would be that your classmates would be much stronger students than you are. They’d want to see how you do at a satellite campus first.

Your SAT and GPA are too low for Pitt’s main campus. Do you have any safeties that you would prefer to a branch campus of Pitt? Many of the PASSHE (PA state schools), though probably not West Chester, would be possibilities. They are all still accepting applications.

@highschooler194 - I think you have a decent shot at Alabama: while you are below their median stats, you have some ECs and URM status may help a bit. With respect to Pittsburgh, what normally happens is that students spend 1-2 years at a branch campus and then, if they perform well, are given the opportunity to transfer to the main campus. You cannot call the admissions director and “switch” because the campuses are not academically equivalent: the main campus in Pittsburgh itself is competitive, while the branches are less so. It might benefit you to take advantage of this option.

You have a shot a UCharleston. Perhaps Alabama and South Carolina. That’s about it. Check out the CDS (students ’ stats).
I’m guessing you didn’t get much guidance in formulating your list.
Your GPA is solid but your sat score is a problem.

Pitt wants you to show what you’re capable of before you get to main campus.

What’s your budget for college - how much can your parents afford?

Are you registered for the sat this week and if so are you preparing? Reaching 1000 would open up more possibilities for you.

You should apply to Keystone, Mansfield, and Slippery Rock for safeties. Then, Chatham, Elizabethtown, Lycoming, Lebanon Valley, Moravian, Gannon, Siena, St Bonaventure, Capital OH, LaSalle, McDaniel, Mount St Mary’s Maryland, West Chester, SUNY New Paltz, Marshall, Shepherd, Longwood, Temple (using 'test optional/temple option) for matches. Ohio Wesleyan, Goucher, Wheaton MA, Towson, U Baltimore, Penn State Altoona and Erie for reaches.
(apply test optional whenever possible)

If you want Southern schools, look into

  • Eckerd for a reach
  • Nova Southeastern, Stetson, Flagler, Millsaps, Southern Mississippi for matches

If you are lower income make sure you check fee waiver on common app or send the NACAC form.

The OP needs to tell us whether her parents have agreed to pay the high OOS costs for any public school or the even higher costs for privates.

I do think she could get into Alabama under their Crimson Edge program because she has a 3.0+ GPA. However, the OOS costs are high so she’d only be able to enroll if her family paid.

Crimson Edge is a successful program which helps students with lower stats get thru college by helping them with study skills, homework time, tutoring, etc.

I was admitted to all the campuses for Rutgers with a 3.8 GPA and 1280 SAT. I also was part of 3 sports, 2 clubs and the school’s student government. Ummm… for other schools, how about checking on college board what they require in terms of grades?

The CDS (or college data - just type that and the name if the college, then go to overview or admissions) will provide, not just the minimum to be considered, but the actual stats of admitted students. You need to be about average to have a 50-50 shot.
For instance, it tells you that University of Virginia’s AVERAGE freshman had a 4.23 GPA and a 1390 sat (adjusted). Therefore, you have no chance of getting in.
It also tells you the AVERAGE admitted student to the University of Charleston had a 3.37 GPA and a 1020 sat score (adjusted ). Therefore, your odds there are about 50-50.
Rutgers indicates its average admitted student’s sat is about 1260 ; senior3 with a strong gpa and a better than average sat plus being instate, had good odds of getting in.

@highschooler194 Are you referring to University of Charleston in WV or College of Charleston in SC?

UVA chances are low

^that’s the understatement of the year.
I hope OP returns and will consider applying to four or five more schools listed on this thread.

UVa is out of reach to be blunt.

If you applied before the priority deadline, you’ll most likely get into Alabama. I know people with the same/ lower stats who got in. You could probably get into SC also. It seems like your going after a lot of big football schools. Maybe ole miss?

@epictaco99 Are you kidding? No, OP does not “have a good chance” at Virginia.

TBH you may be best served by going to a local university or community college - then applying for a transfer after a year or two. I know some very smart kids that do that if for any reason to save money

^ it doesn’t always save money since transfers get lousy aid and only freshman applicants get substantial merit scholarships. It all depends on test scores.
