Okay, I'm a high school student going in to 12th grade this fall.

I've been thinking about college and my future and stuff and thing is I don't know what I want to be and what I want to go to college for anymore. I used to want to be a vet and go to Wayne State, but after hearing about medical school and after looking over my progress in high school/test scores etc (if you need some specifics let me know) I'm certain that's a dream and not a reality.

I talked to some of my family members about this and they gave me that "you can do what you want as long as you have the desire for it" speech but I just don't.....believe that and have confidence in myself. :( And my mom wants me to go to Michigan State because she wants me to experience life out of my area (or something like that), as if I'll ever get into MSU.

I mean, about the vet thing, I don't mind not being a vet, I just want to have a career that works with animals that pays a decent salary and that requires a college course that isn't IMPOSSIBLE to get through. I was interested in vet techs at once but I researched and apparently they don't make so much money. And for those that want to label me as some 'lazy person that doesn't want to put in effort' realize that I'm totally willing to go to vet/med school and all that it's just the fact that I'm worried about dropping out and wasting thousands of dollars because I'm not smart enough to handle it, assuming I even get into school.

So I guess what I'm asking is....what should I go to school for and is it likely that I can make something out of myself? I could use some words here please. Sorry if I sound like a pessimist about all this, I'm just worried about my future.

What are your statistics?
Then again you could still be a vet if you go to college and focus and pull together good grades.
Right now the only thing that might not be plausible is getting into your to vet undergraduate school and really all that is is a motive to do better.
If you really truly want to be a vet then it’s still possible.
If not look into zoology, and other animal professions look up some careers. Figure out your interests and plans that make sense for you

Okay I’ll just post a general summary of my grades and stuff since I misplaced my transcript. If you really need more info I’ll try to find it or get it online if I can.

Freshman year: (this and 10th grade is where I screwed up, don’t make fun of me )

English: D overall (didn’t go to summer school because didn’t have to for a D)
Integrated Natural Science: C overall
JROTC: A overall
US History: C overall
Spanish: B overall
Algebra 1: B overall
Music Theory: A overall
My GPA was like 2.6 overall

Sophomore year: (same only worse)
Geometry: B overall
Spanish 2: A overall
English F overall (I went to summer school and got A’s for both semesters, I’m not sure if they average the two scores or if it’s replaced)
JROTC 2: A overall
Biology: C overall
Civics (1st semester): C overall
Economics (2nd semester): C/D+ overall
Gym: A overall
My GPA was a 2.8 first semester but without the electives it was a 2.0
My GPA second semester should have been about a 2.7 with making up the F’s with the summer school

Junior year: (this is where I transferred schools, and stepped up, I was at Renaissance 9-10th grade. They do things a little differently at this school than at Renaissance, grade wise)
S1:
Journalism: A overall
World History: A overall
Albebra 2A: A-/B+ overall
English 11A: A overall
General Chemistry: A overall
English Support: A overall
Fall Seminar: A overall
S2:
Foods 1: A overall
Albebra 2B: A overall
General Chemistry 2: A-/B+ overall
English 11B: A overall
Aquatic Bio: A overall
Spring Seminar: A overall
World History: A overall
My GPA overall was a 3.8

Community service: 56.6 (only 20 required) I should have dozens more by the time school stars, I did some over the summer and I have to register them in, plus even more during my senior year

Senior Year: (pending, I’m hoping this while boost my overall High School GPA up, since I’m taking a couple of multiplier classes. That’s only if I bet a B- or better in them, though)
AP Government: (GPA multiplier class) B- overall (prediction)
Anatomy/physiology: (GPA multiplier class)B- overall (prediction)
Weight training: B- overall (prediction)
Adv. Algebra 2B: (possible GPA multiplier class) B- overall (prediction) my teacher recommended me to take this class because it’ll “look good when applying for College” even though I already took 2B junior year
Health:A overall (guarantee, it’s a freshman class and it’s bound to be easy to me) I already had this credit due to my second year of JROTC but apparently they won’t take that credit at my new school so I have to take a freshman class as a senior.
English 12:A overall (prediction)
Some other seventh thing?:pI don’t know whether or not they’re doing seminars again, it’s rumored that they cancelled seminars so I might have another seventh class or I might not.
GPA senior year will probably be like a 3.0 or whatever but if I do good in the grade multiplier classes, (x1.1 GPA) I’ll probably get an average of 4 high school years as a 3.5 or something.

I plan on retaking it Sep. 8th, though, and trying to get a better score especially on reading.
so as you can probably see, I’m a math/science person. At least much more than reading/english/social studies.

Never took the SAT. Don’t even know what that’s supposed to do, but my friends/family tell me it’s just if you’re going out of state, and I want to go to Wayne State and I live in that area so…

well there you have it. Let me know if the grades thing is too vague!

((This is an amateur’s prospective go talk to your guidance counselor)
You can always try the SATs if you think you can do better on them the ACTs. And seeing how your grades rose I think you ought to.
Be careful senior year and apply RD, that way colleges can see the full extent of your improvement. They’ll notice dramatic changes like that of a 2.8 to a 3.8 which is good for you
Was there any reason why your grades rose? Was there something that you over came (This could be an essay topic)
Keep volunteering and in ECs try for leadership positions.
Also from where you started to where you finished you showed a lot of improvement and now your GPA isn’t so horrible. My advise? Apply and when you get into college work your buttoff to get good grades. Then apply to Vet schools.

Well I was a bit immature my first two years in high school, and I began to realize that my poor grades isn’t going to get better unless I got a better attitude. Plus Renaissance is harder than my new school.
