Hey. I’m a senior and college apps are just around the corner. Problem is I don’t know what I want to major in. I’m a dork for biology and always have been; however, I don’t know what exactly in biology I should focus on because everything is just so interesting. I’ve always thought I would do something with the environment or ecology because I loved reading about how each animal is different and how their behavior is different, and how they solve problems differently. I also loved wild kratts, so maybe that’s why I’m so fascinated by animals and loved the engineering girl, Aviva. However, I don’t think I’m cut out for engineering or inventing like Aviva. I don’t like math and I suck at physics. I would love to continue studying animals but also I would love to understand how exactly they work. Developing something, creating technology to help animals, studying their behavior, their ways of communicating, their cognition and just understanding them, is something I think I want to do for the rest of my life. I can’t think of a major that encompasses that other than zoology which seems so…basic when I look at what I want. If anyone knows of majors that might interest me, please let me know.
Depending on the college, all of biology may be under a “biology” department and major, or it may be subdivided coarsely (e.g. molecular and cell biology versus ecological and evolutionary biology) or it may be subdivided finely (e.g. biochemistry, genetics, zoology, botany, etc.).
