Intended Major: Quantitative Finance / Finance
IB Subject : Visual Art HL, Business HL, English B HL, Math SL, Korean SL, and Chemistry SL.
The best that I can make for my predicted score best as 33 (except Tok and EE) and my SAT score is nearly 1180. (I’m willing to take SAT Subject Test - Math in August/October)
I changed my major photography to Finance, therefore I do not have lots of extra activity related to Finance.
I’m writing my extended essay in Business, and of course, I’m doing my CAS activity related to Finance-Business.
My dream school is Stevens Institute of Technology but I don’t know I can make it.
Do you see any chances? or any suggestions?
Just a question-- I don’t know a ton about Stevens, but I know they’re a STEM school. A friend lived in Hoboken for a while, and I’ve seen the campus.
Why is Stevens your dream school, when so many other schools have Finance/Business majors? It’s a lovely campus, I’ll agree-- a suburban feel very close to NYC-- but the same is also true of so many other schools.
0309jy1, Hello, My son will be attending Stevens this Fall as a QF major. My son got in the high 1200’s on his SAT and rec’d in the high teens for merit scholarship. We were stunned by a fantastic presentation of the Stevens Business program. We were all set to go to another college until we heard their presentation. They claim to have a 100% job placement to last years graduating business class. The Stevens business presentation uncovered one of the companies that highly recruit Stevens students…which is Goldman sachs. My neighbor has a son in engineering in Stevens and his coops/internships have been top notch companies. He will command a high salary once he graduates. Our neighbor continues to feed us positive information about Stevens that most ppl dont know about. I read somewhere on this forum that Stevens did not take prospective students off the waitlist. (Because everybody enrolls no matter what financial aid you get) My point is, Stevens is a hidden gem that most dont know about. They have so many connections in Wall Street.
Do whatever you can to get into Stevens if its your dream school. Retake the SAT test. My neighbor who is in engineering said one company he interned at said, “We only hire Stevens students”. As Stevens builds up there business program, this will also happen, evidence 100% placement last years grad class.
I guess it goes to show: you can’t trust everything you read online. The little I thought I knew about Stevens pales in comparison to the previous poster-- take his/her advice over mine.
Being a parent, we feel if you take business as your major, you need a college that backs up their talk with a strong job placement. Stevens is it. We have a friend that went to Villanova for finance and is still looking for a job in wall street and its been a year. (This is not insulting Villanova’s business program bc we dont know the quality of the student - just repeating what i heard)
Forgot to mention, my son did the Stevens Summer Camp. It might have been the catalyst for my sons acceptance, merit scholarship with high 1200 SAT score.
