I don't know what to do! :-(

UCLA is my dream school but the only major I am passionate about taking is communications. Apparently its the most impacted major and practically impossible to get into.

should I just choose another major? or should I just find a different school whose comm major isn't as impacted?

Post your stats.

Do TAP so you can try for communications and something else. There’s nothing wrong with having a first-choice school that’s a reach, anyways.

Go in with a different major, and double up BOOM, that’s a hot move.

you know, do what you love. who cares if it is the most impacted, just do your damn best!

get a 4.0, do EC acitivities, complete many units, write amazing essays and just hope for the best!

sure it is the most impacted, but there ARE people that still get in…

your solution is simple, but difficult to accomplish. if you love it, then you’ll give it your best shot. just be the best. have faith.

Or you can just go in as a Korean language major and then…double up in communications, boom, and i lovvvve it.

I think of Bone Thugs N Harmony when I read/hear “double up, BOOM”.

Strange, eh?

I think of going all in with a pair of Aces when I listen to this

You can not double major with an impacted major unless you were accepted into the impacted major to begin with.

when you apply for admission as a transfer- if you anticipate double majoring, you apply to the impacted major.

Doing TAP and applying for an alternate major is your best bet.

cool song samK.

Is a communications major required in order to communicate or something? I don’t understand why people major in communications. D:

I never understood that either. I thought that was a “default” major, no offense.

I always thought communication majors were similar to rhetoric or mass communication, which is offered at Cal. Something to do with the media.

“rehtoric is the refuge of losers.”

lol. i quote.

I’m sure that your ardor towards your major will be communicated in you application.

I’m totally in the same boat right now. My dream school is UCLA and the only real major I want to get into as is Communication Studies but it is extremely tough to go in as one. In fact, the TAP program in my local CC excludes only Communications from its program but accepts all other majors from L&S. I’m thinking of doing biz econ and though it’s also very impacted, I would pick it over comm because my prime goal is to get into business.

There’s a lot of talk about business, but what type of business are you guys aiming for?

Business as in corporate companies I guess. If I majored in comm then I’d probably want to get into PR and if I go with biz econ then probably accounting or administration.

a communication major opens a lot of doors to job opportunities. unlimited job opportunities.

That’s probably what’s most appealing about it. It’s not exactly a job-specific major so it opens a lot of doors but it’s not something that’s broad like say English. Lots of employers find needs for people with good communication skills.
