University of Wisconsin. How can you pass up the low tuition?

I'd really like to go there but I won't get in. The average is about 3.5 and a 26 ACT

that's not very far above you, a low reach at most. Def still apply

Yea that's their low end though, I'm not sure if i will. My sister applied with a 3.6 and 25 and got waitlisted then didnt get in

get the book "America's Best Colleges for B Students" available from Amazon, or the classic "Colleges that Change Lives" although the latter is more oriented towards LACs.

I agree you don't have a great shot at Madison, but there are plenty of other UW schools that are pretty good. Oshkosh, Lacrosse, etc.

Do you want a school like MSU or just other cool schools you could get into?

Minnesota isn't that bad to get in and is in Minny/St. Paul which is awesome. Penn State would be possible too, and is very similar to MSU in terms of Campus and the like. You'll want to apply to some instates too, both as safeties and Madison as a bit of a reach.

It would help if you could post a bit more information about what specifically you're looking for in a college. Some questions to consider...

Are you interested in just public schools, or would you consider private ones?

Is there a sport, a club, an activity, and/or a major that you'd like your prospective college/university to have?

What sort of school would you like? Liberal arts, technical, university?

Would you like there to be a large graduate school or would you prefer a school that's all or mostly undergraduate?

What size school are you thinking? Small (under 2000)? Small-Medium (2000-5000)? Medium (5000-10000), Medium Large (10000-15000), or Large (over 15000)?

Where in the country (or out of it) would you like your school to be located?

How much of a frat scene would you like to see? A place with lots of partying or a quieter campus?

Study hard, retake ACT, go to UW.

Indiana is pretty similar to MSU and a lot easier than MSU. they are ranked identically so academics are also the same.

"1. Are you interested in just public schools, or would you consider private ones? mostly public but private is possible

Is there a sport, a club, an activity, and/or a major that you'd like your prospective college/university to have? I'm either looking into computer science or food science. I want to play rugby as well.

What sort of school would you like? Liberal arts, technical, university? university

Would you like there to be a large graduate school or would you prefer a school that's all or mostly undergraduate?

Where in the country (or out of it) would you like your school to be located ? mostly just the midwest

How much of a frat scene would you like to see? As far as partying, I dont wanna party really but I wanna go to a bigger school to meet more people."

As for safety, I'm probably going to apply to uw-eau claire.

bump, so any other ideas besides indiana?

I don't exclusively want to stay in the midwest, I'm willing to go to other parts.

I was also wondering how reasonable it is to afford out of state???

In Wisconsin, there's a mentality that University of Wisconsin is the best school you can hope for and it's like some sort of honor to get in.

It's easier to get in when you're in-state. A below average ACT won't hurt you that much. And by all means, take it again. GPA means didley squat when it's above 3.3, since every school is really different.

In response to rence, It really is a lot like that.

Pretty much if you dont go to madison, you usually end up going to one of the d3 schools it seems.

ever looked into Montana State (Bozeman) ? Great aid opportunities for non-residents, nice area, and great academics. Agriculture, Engineering, sciences, are all pretty tops there

montana doesnt seem like the right place for me :

i love it when people come on here asking for someone else to pick a college for them with basically no criteria. hm in that case why don't we just come up with one common school to tell everyone to apply to?

^ cocky

but yeah I'll agree with you though.

I'm looking to stay in the midwest mostly and major in either food science or computer science

I also want a large number of students where i go (about 20k and up)
