Hooks:
African American, Jewish, and Adopted, my parents and siblings are white, essays about the meaning of culture/family/identity.

ASU, Oregon, and Wisconsin are most def. your safeties. NYU is a match/low reach. The rest of them you should be in depending on how your essays and rest of the application is. Chance back?

If you do a search on here you’ll quickly learn that NYU is one of the least generous aid schools in the country. Do the EFC’s on all your schools. No out of state public school is a safety.

Clearly, ASU is your safety. So you are good to go with taking chances in applying to any number of reach schools You already have your school that is affordable and has accepted you. I suggest you run NPCs for the schools on your list. If your family does not qualify for financial aid at those schools, you would have to focus on merit. Look on the websites to see if there are sufficient merit awards even being offered. How much is your family willing to pay for your education? That is what’s key here in developing your lists. No problem applying to lottery ticket schools, just understand that the chances of getting accepted and/or getting sufficient money for them could be low.

Thank you both!
My school has every student apply to at least one instate school (I guess because some students wouldn’t even do that if not forced?). If I really didn’t get into any of my school then I probably would apply to LSU or another public school with automatic merit aid.
My parents want me to leave state and are willing to pay a good amount of money, just not 60k. They would prefer no more than 40-45 thousand a year.

You have a solid profile for all of these schools. The only one that you may have to fret over is NYU where I still believe you have a good shot at. I wish you best of luck. Chance back?

Wow I think you have a solid profile for these schools with NYU maybe being a bit more rocky then the others. I think your very unique extracurriculars (lobbying to congress!!) will definitely help you stand out. Ordinarily I would say to be a bit worried about your academics but if the weighting system is made clear by your college counselor and you explained any hardships I see no reason for undue concern.

You have a great shot at all mentioned schools above, the only somewhat troubling ones for you would be NYU and Tulane but you should get in there. Definitely stand out in your essays, showing your diversity and you’ll be fine. Best of luck!
