I Don't Think I'll Get Into Any College With THIS ACT Score.

^ Ok to start, what the hell does that have to do with anything. Sci-Fry never said anything about a 17 being 99th percentile. And btw 32-36 is 99th percentile. Maybe you should comprehend the intended meaning of a post before responding to it.

Good job guys. Kick someone while he’s down. All of you are a-holes.

Come on, seriously. Be a little more supportive. It’s pretty obvious that the OP is disappointed in his score. I don’t think it was necessary for all of you to tell him that he is a failure, and it certainly is not true. If you don’t have anything nice or constructive to say, then don’t say it at all.

But what ticks me off most in this thread is that many of you are criticizing posters who are trying to be constructive and help the OP.

It’s times like these when I wonder why I still even visit this stupid site.

But anyway, to the OP - your gpa, extracurricular activities and everything look good. Study hard for the SAT 2’s. Obviously you won’t be getting into an ivy league school, but you still have a shot at many of the less selective universities in the U.S. (there are many schools that will accept a student with a 17, don’t even say they’re not around.)

guitarman89 you are right i read the post wrong, sorry to scifry, i thought you were saying that he/she is a ahole b/c he/she bragging about his/her great score, while really it was the opposite.
BUT to OP- great gpa and extracurricular activities. You will get into a good college trust me, transfer is always an option just make sure you earn a great gpa at that college

I saw this thread and instantly became pi$$ed off. To be frank, 17 is an awful score. However, for those of you who say that an ACT/SAT score defines one’s future, you my friends are the unintelligent ones here. A test score doesn’t mean ****. It shows how well one can take a test. Sure, he won’t get into the top schools with that score but there are 4-year institutions that will accept him. Even going to a community college for a year and then transferring to a top of the line 4 year institution is completely acceptable and within one’s capabilities. Shame on you.

To OP, look into some test optional universities and do some research to see what kinds of schools have a relatively close bottom 25% percentile score to a 17. Then, explain to admissions why your test score is such and you will be fine. And a community college isn’t so bad. My neighbor’s dream was to go to Cornell straight out of high school but just didn’t have the grades close to do so. So he went to a local community college and transferred to Cornell after two semesters. Good luck.

^^ agree with sean and the fact that quite a few cynical losers here aren’t exactly helping

as for fish…
your dad having a heart attack is not considered something to whine about. that’s some serious stuff to happen right before taking a test. Hell, if one of my family members had a heart attack, I would’ve just stopped functioning, never mind some stupid standardized test. <— Definitely something to mention to admissions

your GPA seems quite in line (whether it’s unweighted or weighted) for any decent college. Granted, your ACT score is hindering you, I recommend finding out about schools that don’t necessarily look at scores that much, and apply there. I also concur with the community college idea: it’s quite common for students to go to a cc and later transfer credits and go to a university

best of luck to you mate

Are you sure you can handle a college level curriculum. Theres a study that shows the botton 25% of test takers have a very little chance of graduating not only within 4 but 8 years. I hate to be a realist but is a trade program at a cc an option.

Bottom line: a 17 is horrible. Call me whatever you like, but a 17 is a very bad score. Time to move on

Really, guys? You think the OP doesn’t know 17 is a bad score? Instead of being jerk-offs and just insulting the OP, maybe you haters can tell him how to get on your level. Even if you guys reached 99th percentile on your ACT, despite what people say about you, you are NOT the hope for tomorrow’s future. Or at least I hope you aren’t, because you guys would totally destroy and demoralize society.
As for OP: Sucks about your score mate. You say you’re Arab and your school doesn’t send too many kids to college in the States? Would I be right in guessing you live abroad? Maybe you could try writing the TOEFL, though admittedly I’m not too familiar with the criteria for it to count for you. Good luck.

Apply to schools that are test-optional. How about Baldwin Wallace, here in Ohio?
