First of all, my gpa is a 3.3 unweighted. Second my first SAT was a 1640 (I plan on taking more and aiming to get at least 600 per section). I have no leadership positions, I go to an incredible school (obama visited haha) and am in a chorus program there. And I’ll have above my needed community service hours. I’m very nervous, I’m planning to apply for summer semesters and undeclared unless I can decide on something. I’m thinking either accounting and business or some sort of computer engineering. What schools do I have a decent chance of getting in? What schools in Florida are good? And what should I do?!?
UF and FSU are commonly seen as some of the “best” in florida, but it seems you may be a bit below their standards. Are you currently a junior or senior or younger? You can join a club still and at least show some initiative towards leadership. Also, retake your SAT and consider taking your ACT, often times students see a good ACT score when the SAT was average/low. Highlight the community service and the chorus program. The GPA isn’t bad (weighted it show be even better). Apply to schools that are above what you think you’ll gain entrance into, and maybe you’ll get in. Make sure you have one safety that you know you’ll get into, and some where your stats measure up. Also, focus a lot on your essays for your applications. Grades aren’t everything.
Florida schools that you might try include: UWF, FGCU, and FAU. UNF might be a reach. It is unlikely that you will be admitted to USF, UCF; nearly impossible at UF or FSU.
Why Florida? You are more likely to get some in-state awards/financial aid in your home state. If you are a Florida resident, your guidance counselor should be able to provide you with info on each school.
