I don't understand my financial aid

Hey all 2014 acceptees! =)

So in the financial aid tracker, under "Awards," there's a chart thingy with a row for each Fall and Spring that basically have the same numbers listed for Columbia Grants and Student Employment.

Are they two different grants given during each the Fall and Spring? Or are they the same grant you receive for one time for the whole school year? Does my question make sense?

I’m also confused about it!

Columbia is split into two semesters. Just add up the total for them both and thats your package out of the ~$52,000 cost

^ Seriously?!? so if it says 23k for Fall Columbia Grant and 23k for the Spring Columbia Grant, then my total grant award for the year is 46 k?? Sounds too good to be true!

Help…? anyone already at Columbia?

That is correct, my award was the exact same when I was accepted. Congratulations :)

If you’re having a hard time believing it, i’ll be glad to take some of that grant money off your hands :)

Yup! That’s true. Congrats on the awesome financial aid package!

how did you guys get you finaid packages already? when i go onto my financial thing it just shows me my documents :frowning: could it be that because my tax form says incomplete or the fact that I have not given my deposit?

and does not getting the package in the first place lower my potential package

It shows your awards on the FA tracker. If it says tax forms are incomplete, you are missing some component of your tax forms, not because you haven’t sent in the deposit.

whats the maximum financial aid package lol?

question to partxtimexlovah. What is your income bracket? i only get 7.5k per year.
so the quesiton is, why does fin aid hate me?

Wondering the same thing

Yeah, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw my financial aid package would only be roughly $7500. Once I realized the total package for the year would be closer to $15,000 I was able to go back to celebrating my acceptance, lol.

Here’s my question about fin aid: Does Columbia expect us to hold two jobs, working 10-12 hours/week each, during the school year (one for federal work study and one just for them)? That’s what it sounds like to me.

AHHHH Worry  I’ve accessed the Fin Aid site and under awards there is nothing listed. Then again, it appears many documents are missing and my Dad said that they aren’t going to have all of the Fin Aid stuff done until they see everyone’s 2010 tax returns, but the fact that other people have their Fin Aid info is making me a bit nervous.

me too coolbeans!! but im calling them monday and getting everything squared away! I must!

I’m soo jealous! You guys are already getting your finaid packages and I haven’t even started a single app essay!

how do u pronounce belguun?

yep. kinda like “bel-goon” lol. Why?
