I don't understand the new meal plan

Sorry, I know very little about the current meal plan or MIT housing situation. But it looks like a new meal plan will start in Fall 2011.
Dining Information Central - House Dining Review - MIT Division of Student Life
I see list of 12 residental halls, but the site states that "all residents of..it lists just 4..will participate". Why just 4? Any changes for the other 8?
It looks like participating freshmen will get 14 meals a week, breakfast and dinner, at a set fee. What would be typical lunch options and would that add significant cost to the basic plan?
Thanks for any enlightenment!

No changes for the other 8 dorms, only dorms with dining halls would have to buy in. I don’t know of any plans in the works to change the lunch options - generally, a meal at the student center is between $5 and $10, depending on what you want. I don’t know what constitutes “significant cost” for you.

All you can eat lunch will also be offered in Massey Hall. Students electing to live there will be expected to buy a 19 meal a week plan. Prices for that have not been announced.

Currently lunch is cash based - you pay what you spend. Students in every other dorm except Massey will continue to pay cash for lunch next year. What you spend is up to you. I spend $2.50 for a slice of pizza each day @ Stata. You could also buy groceries from Shaws and pack a lunch box - or go back to your room if you have time.

You mean “Maseeh Hall”?
