I don't want an Ivy.

Seriously. If you could tell me what you think, it'd be great. I posted this in the other forum by accident. I don't mean to spam the boards.

How hard IS it to get into Bryn Mawr? It doesn't seem nearly as selective as an Ivy, thank God, but I probably couldn't get into it. Has anyone attended this school or have personal experience with it, that could tell me?

By the way:

Am aspiring to major in English Lit/Composition and get a masters in Social Work...

That's all I can think of for now...Out of curiousity, Do you think I have a chance? How hard is it, exactly? What other colleges sound good? (BTW, dream colleges are Colgate and NYU). Am I screwed?

By the way, other schools I'm very interested in are:
*Beloit
*Skidmore
*Smith
*St. Lawrence
*CUNY

Am I shooting too high?

I think you're underestimating yourself. Your greatest weakness is your GPA, which you obviously can't do a whole lot about at this point (assuming you're a junior). But you're lucky in the sense that your english ACT scores are high while the math & science are low because its much easier to "practice" math & science and improve those scores than to try to improve your critical reading skills. Strong extracurriculars -- what about community service? the corn detassling made me laugh... believe it or not I used to do that too.

Skidmore has an active theatre program and seems well within your reach. Although I think it's a major there, I was unaware of Colgate having an active theatre life. On the other hand I read somewhere (maybe the Colgate Live Journal) that it's easy for lower classmen (uhm, including of course women) to get involved in their theatre, radio and TV station ECs because of the paucity of upper classman involved.

It seemed to me that Colgate took strongly into account the essay question of their application.

I have to admit, being a pseudosophisticated urban New Yorker, I find the combination of having a tv station in a high school located in an area where students can get corn tasseling jobs intrigued me.
(perhaps because I'm imagining game shows like "Truth or Cornsequences" or "Corncentration").

Maybe an essay will affect AdComs the same way.
