I don't want to be rejected….again

I applied to a couple of schools my senior year of high school. However, my high school GPA was terrible even with AP classes and honors classes weighting it. My top three school in high school were Sweet Briar College, Hollins University, and Meredith College. Now that I am reapplying, I have put Sweet Briar and Hollins onto my list with Sweet Briar being the school I would most like to attend. I got wait listed and then denied by all three in high school. However, I fear that it will happen all over again. My GPA my first semester of college at my school in Pennsylvania was a lot higher than my cumulative in High School. I will be transferring in as a sophomore but my GPA still wasn't where I wanted it to be. Do I stand a chance with them still looking at my high school credentials (2.3 gap and 21 ACT) in addition to the 3.0 I received this past fall? I am working hard this semester because I now know how I learn and study. I really need this because I would like to be closer to my family. I already sent in my updated application to sweet briar and should hear back within 2 weeks. Do I have a chance?

Truthfully, I don’t know anything about the acceptance stats of these three colleges, and I don’t think whether or not you have a chance matters because you’ve already applied. However, I will say this: if you were WL as a fr, AND the school has a relatively high transfer rate, AND you have continued an upward grade trend, THEN yes, you at least have a chance of acceptance.

Now relax, you’ve done the work of applying. Keep up with your courses so that you have an excellent midterm report to send and just wait and see.

bump? anyone else have an opinion?

I don’t know. I know this is late, but I think Hollins might have wanted some more EC’s, I got in (with a merit scholarship). But I had a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a 1650 SAT, along with the fact that I was going for my blackbelt, took piano for 11 years (and ongoing), and was in the Senate Page Program. It might just be EC’s. I didn’t have academics that were all that better than yours.

2.3 GPA…idk thats rough man…I’d try to apply to a CC and get my GPA up first before going to a good university, after 2 semesters there the admissions depts wont ask about your high school transcript.

That was during High School. My undergrad cGPA is 3.0 even. I did apply to SBC and was accepted this past spring but did not attend because of the financial aid package I was given.
