I don't want to go to college!

I leave in 2 weeks and I really don't want to go! First of all, I need time away from people-people just start to annoy me after awhile. But of course i get put in a dorm with 2 other roommates, so most likely one is going to be there most of the time. I don't want to be cramped into a small, ugly dorm room. I didn't even want to go to the school I'm going to, but I had to mostly due to cost. I wanted to go somewhere far away in a bigger city without a bunch of people in my school, but instead I'm going to my state university with like 60 people I already know. I mean when I looked at schools, the giant student body didn't intimidate me at all. But now that I'm actually going to the school, it seems ridiculously intimidating. I have season football tickets and I don't even like football that much and I don't know anyone to sit with at games. I'm just nervous I'm not gonna make any friends and I just don't want things to change...

Your state university has a football team! That’s always a plus. Which team is it?

Anyway, most of everything is attitude. You don’t sound like anyone people would like to hang out with if you whine about the size of your dorm room. And it doesn’t matter that there are 60 people you already know; it’s college, and state schools are gigantic, so you’ll hardly ever see most of them. You have to be more positive and carve out your own existence.

Im guessing Ohio State, since its like the only extremely large college that is still on quarters. I go there and its not too bad, there is a lot of clubs and societies, join one or two that your are interested in and you will make new friends. The amount of people is not really that intimidating, eventually you will not care.

As long as you are open and communicate with others you will have friends.

Ohio State? I’m going to Ohio State! Dude it’s going to be a blast! The hell are you complaining about?

Yeah it is ohio state. Thanks for the replies, though. I don’t know I was really excited and then it just hit me that I’m really nervous to leave and now I’m like freaking out about all the negatives…

There aren’t any negatives! We’re talking about the best university in the country here.

Here is our plan for the first semester, mkb:

Do well in classes, go to the RPAC every day

Join a lot of clubs and student organizations.

Go out most nights of the week, meet new people.

You should join intramural sports team. I’m going to do Rugby.

Stay out of the dorm room as much as possible. This should be easy for you, since you don’t like your dorm.

Saturday morning, we start tailgating in the morning and cheer on the Buckeyes in the Shoe.

On away Saturdays, we hang out at a sports bar for the game. Good times.

Relax on the Oval and by Mirror Lake. These places are beautiful! I really like parks though, being from NYC.

Go to a Columbus Crew game, a Blue Jackets game (great fans, I hear), and a Clippers game (awesome ball park, party on terracing from what I hear.)

Explore German Town and go to bierhalle

Go gallery hopping on Short North

The list could go on and on! Columbus, Ohio, is the new ****.

emphasis mine

The first couple of weeks may be hard (they were for me), but after I broke out of my shell I had a lot of fun, and hopefully you will too. Its a big campus but if you surround yourself with people with similar interests you will have a lot of treasured memories.

haha thanks tobaccoNchocolat that really cheered me up ha. I know I just need to think of good parts of college, I know there are a lot. I just think I’m nervous and starting to realize how big of a change it’s gonna be.

and to noimagination-the thing is I’m going with a lot of people I know, but I was never really good friends with any of them, and most of the people I know are going with at least a few good friends but I’m not.

As viciouspoultry wrote, the first few weeks are gonna blow. It’s probably gonna take a while for you to make friends. On the plus side, I’m sure a university as large as Ohio State has more than enough clubs for you to join in order to meet people. And like tobaccoNchocolat wrote, stay out of the dorm as much as possible. Don’t even study there; you can go to the library for that.

I’m watching Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs right now. This movie is fantastic. I didn’t think it would be this funny.

Thanks guys I actually love it here!!! GO BUCKS!! I Lovee this place!
