I don't want to go to my state school b/c of the HS classmates I'd see...

The title pretty much says it all. I found out today that I might not be able to afford going to the private school I had my sights on. Instead, I might have to end up at an average low tier in-state school...which I will be able to afford w/ the FA i'll get + work study (also extra $$$ :D) I'm hoping that I'll be able to suck it up...but there's a handful of people that are going to go there that I absolutely despise --which makes me feel like jumping out of my skin and pulling my hair out. I know it's a pretty large school (16k+) so I hope I won't run into them. I'm hoping that I will be able to transfer out after a year or two.

Any thoughts or opinions? What do I do??

Non-issue is a non-issue. You’ll only have a problem if you have self-destructive tendencies and actively force yourself to think about this.

Which school are you looking at?

BTW, you should try to transfer to UMTC after a while. It would probably be fairly affordable and that’s where I’ll be :)

You probably won’t see them much. I went to a tiny highschool and am now at a medium size school. I see a former classmate maybe 2x, and it’s never the same one. Don’t worry about it.

@noimagination: I was talking about St.Cloud state U :'(((( I will most likely transfer to the U after a year (or two)…if I don’t get in to/can’t afford to Emory/upenn/candy and some others …I will work my butt off at scsu & join ecs, get involved and make the most of it etc. I seriously would rather go to a CC but I don’t gave a car + living at home + taking the metro bus would be a hassle. I wish I had worked harder in HS… to get unto the UofM  Im such an idiot haha I think you’ll like it and maybe one day we’ll see each other there :)

@prcssmahina: thanks …I hope it’ll be like that :)

On top of that I’m a city person and I’m extremely nostalgic for the east coast…I’m tired of living in MN but I like the UofM and it’s affordable …

I think it’s ridiculous that you don’t want to go to a school simply because people you don’t like will be going there.

Go.

End of story. Don’t be an immature baby and whine about all the people you dislike that you have to go to school with, especially since you probably won’t ever see them!

I go to a school that has like 2700 undergrads, and there are people who I want to see and don’t if I don’t actually try! Oh, and guess what! There are people I dislike! Boo frickin hoo!

Sorry that I’m being so harsh, but it’s true. It’s really not a big deal, and it should have absolutely nothing to do with your decision about going to the school or not.

I think it’s a legitimate concern to have! But it sounds more like the idea of staying in state is the issue, which I totally totally understand: ( But I guess you really have to think about just how many people 16,000 is, plus the fact that you’ll make so many new friends, and have so much more exciting things to think about than a few annoying people you used to know… good luck : )

Grow up.

I go to Chico State. I went to Chico Senior High School. Lots of my classmates went here. I see maybe one person I know from high school every few weeks–although in the larger GE classes you may very well recognize more, as I have in a few of mine.

Anyways, I don’t really care for them much, but it’s not a big deal. Time to be an adult and confront situations that make you uneasy.

I wouldnt go if it was me i got the same problem i dont want to see none of my classmates from highschool

You will hardly ever see them if it’s like any other school. This is a worry with a lot of high school kids, but it just isn’t a problem, things are so much more spread out, size and time wise, that unless you go looking; you may never see them.
Your list of privates is some very pricey schools; there are really, really good schools that cost at least 35% less than most of those. Keep looking around at some lesser name schools.
Remember that once you get your first job, the school you went to will never matter again; how well you do your job will.

Yeah, the University of Michigan is amazing. It is the greatest college with the best atmosphere and high academics. Your life is over because you couldn’t get in. You missed the greatest opportunity of your life and you will live the rest of your life knowing this fact…

^whoa, whoa, whoa there MLDwoodzzz i was talking about the UofMinnesota (which over here we call the UofM …there’s some confusion…I’m sure it’s an awesome school…but it’s in Michigan  who wants to live in michigan detroit sucks…what’s ann arbor like??

St Cloud is a horrible school! I visited my friend there a few times. I have heard nothing but bad things…

lol, UofM ok… that’s taken.

Michigan =/= Detroit… stupid…

Ann Arbor is the “perfect” college town, I guess. It’s exactly what a college town in the movies would be like.

But the whole point of that post was to make you feel bad… and I messed up… now I feel bad

^ sorry  Anyway, I think Michigan is very well rounded and offers the enter package…especially if you’re outgoing  but it’s definitely way better than Minnesota

UMich > UMinn  …if only we had tuition reciprocity for UMich like we do for Madison :frowning: (but then they’d lose a lot of $$$) .

@Jmbates123: now i feel even worse. I am probably going to visit SCSU soon…can you tell me what is so awful about it please? ive heard som nasty things as well…i feel like killing myself if i have to go to SCSU…like no joke.

Woah woah woah, “who wants to live in Michigan Detroit sucks”?

Who are you to make that judgement?

I think I can be the judge here since I live in Minnesota and chose Michigan over Minny and Madison…U of M is Michigan, The U is Minnesota, Ann Arbor is great, Detroit sucks, Michigan is amazing, UMN and Madison are pretty good, SCSU is well…bad. Try to get into the U asap.

I’d rather go to MCTC or Normandale…honestly but because of personal reasons I can’t commute  can anybody please tell me what you know about SCSU??! i really don’t want to end up there! but if i do i’d transfer to the U…most likely. I’m actually quite bright :/

what about MNSU-mankato?

Did you apply to UMD? That’s at least respectable. St. Cloud is actually probably better than Mankato, but I wouldn’t recommend either. It sucks that you can’t do Normandale because I believe there is a guaranteed transfer thing there with the U. You could also look at like St. Thomas or St. Johns, but again I assume the application period is long gone by now. If worst comes to worst you could take a semester off and apply for winter semester start at some other schools in MN or like UW-Eau Claire or Lacrosse. Good luck.

^ yeah, I was think that St.Cloud is stronger academically than Mankato…sort of. I’ve heard that they’re really racist and I’ve spoken to some of the people that work there and their answers are just…awful…i really don’t want to go there! :frowning: i just hope my finances for the private schools i got into will work out  idk how i will be able to commute here since I don’t have a car, i cant live at home bc of my family, and i have no idea how the buses work over here  I would rather go to a CC…at least i would have the stress alleviated from me knowing that I have a Guaranteed agreement w/ the U of MN…

honestly i’d only pick SCSU b/c i will get a full ride there + have dorm space…

Can you get into Morris? I’m not a ratings whore, but they are getting some nice press.
