Does anyone know how I can cancel my contract without paying the $200 cancellation fee? I'm going to be a junior and am signed up to live at Lakeside for the 2012-2013 school year.

I've been hearing that because the dorms get so overbooked, if I wait till the beginning of fall semester the housing department will be desperate enough to let me cancel for free. Apparently last year some students had to live in the common rooms because there were no rooms available.

Thoughts?!?!

I’d contact housing if I were you as I keeping getting emails asking for volunteers on giving up dorm space. I’m guessing, but if they are hurting for room, you’d likely get your deposit back. Good luck

The emails I’ve gotten state pretty clearly that you are still going to lose the $200 deposit.

I actually thought it was pretty funny the way they worded it, it sounds like they are doing you a solid by only charging the normal cancellation fee!

Agree, what a break, lol. I guess i havent looked at the details given not interested in giving up my room. Sorry

I would call them and tell that when they are willing to give your $200 back. You will gladly give up your room.

Chances are they jump on it or they may say no. But your name will be placed on a first to call list. If they are overbooked they have to pay private apartment complexes to find rooms for the overbooked students.

They put people up in apartments? That’s nice. I figured they would turn a bunch of doubles into triples and make everyone miserable.
