Okay, so I thought I could make it without college. Although, I have put up a great fight and have managed to bring in 30 grand a year using a trade-skill, it is not fulfilling in the least and to tell you the truth, the money does not go to far.

I am 20 years old, barely graduated from High school, never took the Sat's, I have poor credit, but a wonderful girlfriend.

Help me, this is an honest attempt from a very stubborn person, looking for someone to reach out and grab me before I fall.

How do I get myself out of this mess, and how soon can I be on the right track to getting to somewhere I want to be?

you already made the first step: wanting to change. so congrats brother

second: i'll be glad to help you out, but everyone's different. i'll probably need to know more. what state/city do you live in? do you have any hobbies/interests? example: if you liked photography, shooting for a newspaper or something wouldn't be so bad. you would meet people on the job and work yourself up pretty quickly.

it all depends on the person but id be glad to help. tons, tons of people have made it without former education. your desire to change is a good sign, keep it up, it'll bring you places. but where exactly do you want to be?

Well, I would like to go back to college. I would like to major in business, and minor in criminal justice or some sort of law. I've always wanted to be a detective, maybe thats just a silly kid dream from watching to much TV.

Business Administration would be something I could do well, I like money and management, but it would be a job and not something I enjoy.

Don't go back to college. Just become a state cop. Work a little overtime and you can easily make 100k a year. In a couple of years you can take the test to become a detective. No college degree required.

Start part-time at your local community college (also known as junior colleges in some areas). This is a low cost option that should allow you to keep your present job & your girlfriend. All you need to get started is a high school diploma, or GED, and a few hundred dollars. SAT/ACT scores are usually not required.
