I enjoyed my time here...

It's been nice following the USC forum for the last few months or more. I enjoyed the hourly posts when all of us were checking the Application Status. It was like a fun and *frustrating *game. :)

Our family was thrilled when our daughter got that huge, impressive admission packet in the mail.

We knew that the financial aid packet would most likely determine whether or not it would be feasible for her to attend. It was. Although USC was more generous than we expected, unfortunately it just wasn't enough. Our daughter didn't feel comfortable coming out of undergraduate school with loans. Not when she would need to borrow even more for grad school.

Judging from her pros and cons list, there were other reasons she didn't quite feel USC was a good match for her. Actually, it wasn't the school itself, although in her major she would have been spending the majority of her last few years on the Health Sciences campus. She much prefers University Park. :)

I'm sure she would have done fine there if it were affordable for us. If she doesn't decide to go out of state for an occupational therapy grad program, there's still USC! They're #3 in the country right now. So, you never know---she may end up a Trojan after all...although Boston U is looking pretty good to her and they're #1. :) First things first!

Best of luck to all of you who accepted your offer of admission! I know you'll enjoy your time at USC.

In the meantime, I'm going to be a Cal Poly SLO parent! We're all excited and looking forward to September. It's a relief to have the decision made! No more college applications, at least until grad school! ;)

Fight on!

Congratulations! Cal Poly is a great school.

You have been through the entire USC admissions/status/acceptance/fin aid process here on cc, so I know I would LOVE it if you would come back next winter to help next year’s applicants navigate through it all. You have been a wonderful addition to the USC-college-confidential community - I’d love it if you keep popping in!

Cal Poly SLO is a great school and I hope your daughter loves it! And if things change, don’t forget that USC is very transfer friendly so if she decides later down the road that she wants to try again, at least she’s been through the process once  Congrats again on your daughter’s decision and I hope that she loves it at SLO!

Thanks, alamemom and akalboy!

Yes, she checked the spot on the USC withdraw card asking them to keep her name on their mailing list for transferring purposes, etc.

I’ll definitely pop in, alamemom! After all, it’s the Trojan family, right? :)

There aren’t any undergrads on the health sciences campus…all undergrad programs are at university park.

But still, congrats! Cal Poly SLO is a great school.

According to this she would be taking OT classes over at the Health Sciences Campus in her junior or senior year

[USC Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy: B.S. to M.A.: Curriculum and Requirements](<a href=“USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy”>USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy)

“During the junior year, classes generally meet once or twice a week on USC’s Health Science Campus.”

yeahhh, jbusc is incorrect

to 2leashes: congratulations and good luck!

I see. Congratulations about Cal Poly SLO. :)

Congrats, 2Leashes. Boston U, USC, and Cal Poly SLO are ALL very impressive.

It’s been a year since my daughter was accepted to USC, so I thought I would come back to check out all the new excitement for THIS year’s admitted students. I remember those days and nights on the computer checking her status…over and over! :)

As I mentioned in my original post here dated 5-2-10, my daughter regretfully turned down USC’s offer of admission primarily because of financial reasons. It was a tough decision, and after much thought and a Pros and Cons list, she paid attention to what her head dictated and not just her heart’s desire. Again, not a quick and easy process.

She’s just finishing up her 2nd quarter at Cal Poly SLO and absolutely loves the school and town of San Luis Obispo. It’s ironic, because initially when she first looked at colleges, there was “no way I’m going here!” (She liked the more traditional look of the historic buildings at USC.) However, just as I told her back then, it’s not just about the buildings. It’s about the people you put in them. She now recognizes that. So, we’re very glad that she’s happy *and *that it’s affordable!

In the meantime, of all the schools she was accepted to, USC’s packet and subsequent literature are the only ones I still kept. I was so impressed with their letter of admission and thick package, I just had to save it! And, who knows, she might just end up being a Trojan for occupational therapy grad school!

Best wishes to all of you who have been accepted. And, I hope when the financial aid packages come in, there will be enough there to make your dream come true, if USC is the school you decide to attend. Good luck!

Thank you for the update 2Leashes. I am you this year! I have really appreciated the support of this group and we are eagerly waiting for the financial aid package to come out to see if USC is a reality for my son. Glad to hear your daughter is happy where she is. I trust that if we can’t make USC work financially, that my son will be equally as happy at his choice! Thank you!

Thanks for the update! Your daughter made a great choice - “lamehusband” is a Cal Poly graduate, and we visit as often as we can (we became engaged on a visit to San Luis Obispo) so I agree that SLO is a wonderful town :)

We had lots of excitement in late January with scholarship admissions as always, but the system changed a bit this year - they put ONE status message on everyone’s application and have held all non-scholarship admissions until (probably) this week, so there is a lot of thumb-twiddling and toe-tapping going on, but very little excitement so far this March.

This new system is far less stressful for the applicants, I am sure, but is not nearly as much fun or as exciting for the observers :)

Thanks for the update, and I am so glad to hear your daughter loves Cal Poly (I knew she would)!

“they put ONE status message on everyone’s application”
-glad the admissions office took that bit of advise to heart after all the years of ‘Sturm und Drang’ over applicants trying to interpret different opaque messages!
I was wondering why it was so much quieter on this forum this year than in the past!

Hi 2leashes! I applied to the OT program at USC as a transfer and was wondering what the admission packet looked like? Also, did your daughter get accepted straight into the ot program or would she have had to reapply for her junior year?

NC Mom: Good luck with your son’s FA package. It sometimes can be a deal breaker, but often a dream maker! I know he’ll do fine where ever he ends up!

alamemom: What a sweet and romantic story! <3 Yes, SLO is definitely a fun town to visit as a parent, too. Actually, the entire surrounding area is nice.

Well, I have to agree, the admission status process was mind-boggling last year! But, I admit, kind of fun at the same time. :)

menloparkmom: I guess I’ll have to come back when all the action begins! ;)

snowboard129: When she applied with the intentions of going into the Bachelors-to-Masters OT program, she was instructed to apply Pre-OT. But, it’s basically an Undeclared major. I’m not sure how it works, although I imagine she would have had a certain GPA in her pre-req classes before applying to the Master’s part of it. We had hoped to attend an informational meeting in Northern CA chaired by the head of the OT Dept. Unfortunately, my daughter had to take an ACT that day. Good luck to you! I’ll be curious to see where my girl ends up for OT grad school. I know that Boston U is high on her list. Or Tufts. I think she wants to go back East, but USC is always an option. We shall see!
