So anyways, I decide last night to apply to Columbia regular decision. I was going to do ED but some personal issues came up. For the last two month I was not going to apply to Columbia at all, but I decided to apply because I was basically done with the application, so I thought why not? So anyways, my problem is my teachers won't be able to send out my LORs until at least the fifth and maybe after. How big of a problem will this cause?

Should I email admissions?

hi golfer, not as bad as you think, if they are sent out on the 5th your app will be read when the LORs arrive.

you have to think that it takes columbia anyhow some time to process mail - so they wont really know when the stuff was mailed. something mailed tomorrow it may take them 2 or 3 weeks to process all the thousands of pieces of mail.

the most important stuff at the beginning would be your parts 1, 2 and paying the fee. from there the earlier your other stuff arrives the earlier they can begin reading your file. so though it is not great that your stuff wasn’t already sent, you are a) not alone, b) your application will most likely be read when these new files come to complete your file.

Dear admissionsgeek,

So it is possible to send the letters a little later! I say that because I have a similar issue. There was a problem with my school PC and my teachers somehow did not answer my request. And it is some kind of school policy not to provide the teachers’ phones or emails, and, as I am an international student and we follow the Southern Hemisphere schedule, I will have to wait a little.

And as I have already paid the fee, it would be awful if I didn’t send my application… particularly because I happen to enjoy my personal essay! :-(

well, i mention this to let you know that yes you can still finish your application.

as i wrote before it is BEST if you had already submitted information. however, there are many students that for whatever reason do not get to submit their things on time and their applications are read and of them some are admitted.

i believe it is always best to have things in plenty early. but to clear your worries, yes, you can submit it maybe later on and it will be read. but do not chance it too much and go into mid january without documents sent.

I understand. Thank you a lot.
