I failed my freshmen year in college, can I still....

Hi everyone,

So I failed my freshmen year at a not to well known college University of Anchorage Alaska and now I am attending classes at a community college in Chicago. I eventually want to attend a top 50 university weather I go in as a undergraduate or transfer. So I guess my question is, how do I still get into a top 50 university, even though I failed my freshmen year at another university? Should I go back to that university(if its possible) and fix my grades? I just finished my first semester at a community college a got all A's, so should I keep attending this community college and create a gap between how I did before and how I'm doing now? How can I come out on top of this? Any and all advice will help.

Thanks

Your best bet is to continue where you are, complete a full AA/AS degree with the best GPA possible, and then apply for transfer. Sit down with the Transfer Counselor at your CC and talk with them about your options. Yes, you will have to send official copies of that transcript whenever you apply for admission to a degree program, but lots of people have lousy first years in college. It will not be as much of an impediment as you fear.
