I failed the June SAT.

Dude u just started this thread to show off,did u??? Come on…here I am with a 1710…trying to get to good universities …with a good academic record…and good ecs…the only place which bugs me is my SAT!!! And u have got that like a cherry on the ice cream sooo just shut up! And yes even I am a asian…an Indian…so even I know how important scores are for u!

:blush::smile:

I genuinely struggled with the SAT; I took it three times and ended up with a 1980… I’m still optimistic though hopefully my extracurriculars will save me. Won’t deter me from applying to Stanford and other prestigious schools. God will help me :)

You’re competitive at this point for any college; however, I’d shoot for at least a 2280 in your situation. You can probably bump your math up to 800 (or at least 780) without much difficulty; if you’re confident in your reading skillz, you can do a few more practice tests and hope to have a good testing day. And I read a similar study about a deduction for Asians, but that one said it’s more like 30-50 points. The best thing you can do? List yourself as Caucasian (most people have some Caucasian in them) or don’t report your race at all. If your last name is Zho-Chou, you may have a problem…

Me being an average joe, took mine in June. Thogh the SAT server isnt picking up my scores yet, I know that mine will be only around 500-600 so please, spare me the “i got only a 2000” crap lol

The first time I took the SAT I got a 1520, shut up.

I’m taking the ACT instead and getting steady 30’s now.

Agreed with jiggoha. When you read these forums, it’s easy to feel that you failed with a 2160. An argument can very easily be made that for her aspirations, Princeton and Stanford, 2160 is a bit of a failure or at the very least not exceptional in any way.

If you’re aiming for those schools, the honest truth is that of course having a dramatically better score (2300+) will help significantly. But it’s equally true (or at least true enough) that there are a host of other things you could do to help your chances of admission just as much if not more. Especially at the very top schools, you are not just a number. Because of the extreme selectiveness of the application process and because they’re inundated with applications, they can afford to look beyond the numbers and take you into full scope - so if your other stats and extracurriculars really do kind of fail as you say, then you probably are fu*ked if you don’t take this as a wake up call.

But if there are other places where you can improve your standing (and I’d push in particular for extracurric. exception), balls to the wall those places. The elite schools tend far more than other schools to take applicants with lower score profiles that are exceptional in other ways, simply because they can afford to far more than the other schools. There are many metrics suggestive of future success beyond your scores.

So obnoxious…

If I had been getting ~790 in practice tests and then suddenly get a 650, I’d be ****ed too.

To all the people who’re complaining about their scores, unless you get a 600, you shouldn’t be complaining either. Because if you get 1700, there’s people with 1400 and if you get a 1400, there’s people with 1100, and so on. There’s something called relativity. A 2160 is bad for him, relative to his potential and relative to his previous scores. So what if you scored lower? Does that mean he can’t be disappointed?

Honestly with that logic, you should feel bad every time you throw away a crumb of food because there are starving kids in Africa. You should also feel bad every second of you’re life that working because there are families in China who work for cents an hour and struggle to even afford the bare necessities of life. Oh, and forget about ever having an opinion because there are people in communist countries are killed for expressing theirs.

/rant

haha i like CalvinTBOD’s first comment…
