I feel bad about myself.

I thought I had a good shot at some top tier schools, but after doing more research and reading some posts here, I'm not feeling very confident.
Here are my stats:

SATs: CR- 800 (much more common than I thought)
Math- 480 (much worse than I thought)
Writing- 650

I think my GPA is somewhere around 3.5, but I never kept track. Same with class rank; I think it's in the upper third.

As for ECs: National Art Honor Society, 4 yrs
Drama Club, 3 yrs
Quiz Team, 2 yr
Senior Mural Committee, 1 yr

I had a pretty terrible freshman year, lots of F's. I've bounced back since then and have mostly gotten A's and B's and taken some AP and Honors courses, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing than can make up for year one.

Anyways, what do you guys think? I'm pretty sure I'll end up at Penn State if I don't go to art school or just join the Navy, but I'd really like something more.

ya, penn state would accept you, you know it is the #2 rated party school in the country right? Not trying to deter you.

I don't have any objection to partying. I just don't feel motivated to go to any school and I know I need to find some direction before the fall. So far the only thing that's piqued my interest is Deep Springs College but there's no way in hell I could get in there. I know I haven't really given any substantial information, but do you think taking a year off is the right course for me?

i wouldn't suggest taking a year off, go to some school and at least work on ur general education courses

Well, there are schools that don't consider freshman year when determining admittance. Some examples of these are Stanford, Princeton, and all of the University of California campuses. However, they like to see a bit more balanced CR/Math score than you have here (although I'm guessing this SAT I score of 1930 will get you into UCSC, UCI, UCSB, and UCD even if you are from outside of California). You may even have a possibility at UCSD.

Look, do us a quick favor. Go figure out your GPA (or actually post the grades on here semester by semester). Tell us where you are from. Tell us what interests you and what AP courses you've been taking--then we can figure out a major for you that makes sense and help estimate colleges better.

And lastly--and most importantly--figure out if you really want to go to college at this time, because it appears you aren't really sure.

Best of luck.

All right, my GPA comes out to a 3.3. I'm taking AP Lit, World History, and Studio Art, and most of my interest is in those three areas.

Problem is, english, history, and art don't strike me as very practical majors. That doesn't bother me, but it bothers my parents. I think I'd be fine with not heading to school right after I graduate, but again it bothers my parents. I know they're right, too, and I have a feeling I might end up enjoying it when I get there. I'm not exactly sure where "there" is though. So what's your advice?

Oh, and I live in rural Pennsylvania.

honestly, don't get too depressed, most people on CC are overacheivers anyways, you have a shot anywhere you personally think you can get in :)
