i feel embarrassed to ask this

How's gay life at Yale? Is there tolerance to homosexuality? Are there gay/lesbian datings?

"One in four, maybe more" :)
From what I've heard it is known to be the best gay Ivy with numerous homosexual student organizations and plenty of open gay/lesbian couples on campus.

Don't be embarassed. Better to ask now then to get there and be like, noooo. Well I would say, it's no Vassar, but from what I hear it's very gay friendly. So I'd say you'd be in luck. :)

There is definitely a very visible gay presence on campus, and I've never heard any stories of major intolerance. Even the athletes and conservative religious groups tend to be fairly excepting, at least in public. One of my gay friends yesterday was complaining about the dating scene, but I don't think you'll have to worry about being harassed.

Wow, I mean the groups are accepting. It was a long day.

it's AMAZING. "the gay ivy." i'm a freshman at yale and i've never seen so many gay people before...a little overwhelming since there are so many gays here, but hey, that's no problem, right? (that's only for guys...i don't know about girls since i'm more concerned with guys.)

i might have to switch my position. i dont want to be around gay people, sorry. but that's just me. maybe that's why you gotta walk around with someone at night, just in case someone jumps out of the bushes.

What? Of all the crime around New Haven I don't think any has involved "gay rape." The non-straight people here are not sex crazed maniacs and I'm insulted that you would assume so. We're Yale students here and like to think that we are smart and cultured enough to avoid sex crimes (I would be more worried as a straight girl). As a freshman at Yale I don't "want to be around" you either so go ahead and "switch your position." In any case, if your bigotry comes through in interviews or essays all the test scores in the world won't make up for it. Yale doesn't sound like the place for you.

my post was heaviful drawn out in sarcasm. im not applying to yale, but rather im just posting here

well said, barski

yeah, seriously bingo, the northeast is what it is. If you really have a problem, then go somewhere in the south and leave us alone.

"go somewhere in the south"

Hey, yea, that's not rude, based on unfair stereotypes, or a complete misunderstanding of the south. Good thing we've got reasonable folks like pianoking around here to deflect offensive statements about gays.

Fair enough J Ho, but we have a very myopic view of the country from up here, lol. No hard feelings I hope.
