I feel guilty for missing college because I'm sick

So this weekend I came back home for a family event and I was planning on going back to my college which is an hour away Sunday night. However when I woke up Sunday morning I had a fever and an extremely sore throat that came out of nowhere. I decided to stay at home Sunday night and go back Monday morning hoping that by resting and taking some cold medicine It would help me feel better. Well when I woke up this morning I was going to try to go back to college but when I woke up I felt worse than yesterday. My head hurt my throat was still killing me my fever was back and I even started feeling like I was going to throw up. My mom pretty much made me stay home and not drive back to college. The problem is I feel guilty for missing class. I always go to class and I’m not one to skip. Today I have 2 large lecture classes and I wouldn’t mind missing them as much if they didn’t have daily questions that you have to answer. The first class is a little bit smaller lecture class so I emailed the teacher that I was sick and had a fever so I couldn’t come. The professor in this class likes to ask questions on random days that we have to turn in for grading. In the syllabus it says we get no opportunity to make up a missed question no matter what. I can only hope that today she chose not to ask a question of the day. My second class is a large bio lecture that one has clicker questions you have to answer and I’m going to try to answer them from here but idk if I can. I just feel really bad for missing class even though I know going to school would probably make me worse and I could get other people sick

Don’t feel guilty. Your best option would be to contact your school’s student support services, or contact your professors/TAs so they can excuse you.

You should also see a doctor. If you have a note from a doctor saying you were ill it is much more likely you’ll be excused. Feel better.

Email your professor and TA to let him/her know. As long as this isn’t a recurring issue, the email will probably suffcie to excuse you from class. If it’d make you feel better, you can go to the doctor and get a doctor’s note. Furthermore, clicker questions and such are typically a VERY small part of your grade, like maybe 5%.

Trust me . . . no one wants you going to class when you are sick and contagious!

Feel better soon!

You would have felt a whole lot worse if you had fallen asleep at the wheel and killed someone.

You’re sick. Stay in bed and get better.

And I second the advice of emailing your professors and providing a doctor’s note.

Email the prof/TA. They don’t want you in class like that any more than you want to be in class when you feel like that.

I’d go to the doc and make sure it’s not something like strep though. That way you can also get a doctor’s note, just in case.

I saw “Quarantine Yourself for 24 Hours” if you have a fever signs (with other instructions/suggestions if you are ill) posted on bulletin boards on each floor of my daughter’s dorm. So, you are doing yourself and others a favor by not spreading the germs. Like others above stated, contact your professors/TAs, make up what you can. Feel better soon!

E-mail your instructors and let them know you are ill and inquire about making up missed work. It’s early enough in the semester that it shouldn’t matter too much. Your professors and fellow students will thank you for staying away and being considerate of their health.

Instructor and Professors are people too. They’d understand the situations students get into just let them know what actually happened.
