ugh, I was kinda screwed in this college process (or so I feel)
I got pretty good sat scores - math 650 Verbal 770 Writing 770
SAT IIs: Lit 730 Math 660
very good extracurriculars connecting to my thread of interest in child psych (assistant esl teacher, therapeutic activity assistant, peer leader at my hs, much more)
great essay
95.2 average, hard classes

ok...so I applied to Binghamton,. Brown, Brandeis, Grinnell, Tufts, Vassar, Wesleyan, Haverford and Uchicago
I know this list is top heavy, and I didn't expect to get into brown...but I only got into brandeis, grinnell and bing....I got waitlisted at vassar and wesleyan..and rejected by the rest. In the end, I'm not gonna get into wesleyan or vassar anyway...I feel like I was incredibly unlucky...

Or you could consider yourself pretty lucky ...you got into Brandeis and Grinnell.(I love Grinnell!!)
It may seem harsh when you look at just the acceptance numbers vs the denies, but when you consider that now you have two really stong colleges to choose between, how can you feel all that badly?
Try to go to the student admit days - they will pump you up and make it really hard to choose between your options. Congratulations -
you really do have two (I know nothing of Bing, so maybe three) really fine choices.

I think your number put you in the right colleges that admitted you. You were actually lucky, because it could go either way. I know more people got ripped off by higher numbers.

You should get to know that going to college is more than the rank or reputation. And, like others said, Brandeis, grinnell, even Binghamton all are very good schools despite their lower national reputations. So I can't see how unlucky you are, because you still got somewhere going to next year!

you did better than me, i got waitlisted at every school i applied to (granted, i didn't apply to enough...) I want to go to UChicago more than anything. I've got good scores (ACT=30) and extracurriculars. at least you know you've got somewhere to go next year

kenyon-01- be quiet, I have looked at your posts, and you are very often wrong

bedlam, ignore kenyon, not worth your time

try applying for spring admission...you never know, and look at the posts about andison, great kid, rejected everyhere, took a cap year, and is going to a great school, it can be done

citygirlsmom- you be quiet granny! i am entitled to my opinion and i think i was right on that one, 30 on act is far from good for uchicago, in fact more than 60% of successful applicants got over 30.

First of all, both Brandeis and Grinnell are excellent schools, very hard to get accepted. You were most certainly not shortchanged.
If you have not visited either of these schools yet, now is the time to do an overnight, and see which one feels "right".
Hey, you may love both and have a hard time deciding between them.

Send in your deposit to one of the 2, and who knows, in June you could get off the Vassar waitlist.

Last year, my D's friend, who had higher stats than you, was waitlisted at Vassar and Haverford, but was accepted in June to Vassar.

Numbers are not everything...and gee, if you read what kenyon said, AVERAGE is 31, so some are above and some are below

Gee, that is like MATH, so 40 % (almost half) got below 30 points

So, how is 30 bad....if that school accepts 40% with below 30points, seems that score is okay

So what is the world in Kenyon talking about

Average means average, if you have a bunch of acceptees with 34 points, you have bunch with 26-27 points

Sure you could have a lot of students with 32 points, but to get a 30-31point average, you have to have peple below 30 get in, imagine that, and 40% of them at that, gosh golly, amazing how numbers work

okay granny i'm not going to argue with you no more, the kid said that he got good scores (ACT=30) and i said 30 is below average i did not say that he has no chance of getting in.

check out the act scores, a 30 is not "way below" anything, in fact, its is like, golly, in the middle- see sometimes you need to know your facts before to use words like "you got to be kidding"", it can help your argument

Calm down everyone, I know first hand that scores are of no importance and to have just a middling score is still enough to keep you in the college raise as long as you have other things going for you, so don't ever worrry about your scores.

What is the point of this bickering. There are 2 separate posters involved. The OP is Grammbla, who got into Grinnell, and kenyon_01 responded to Bedlam who wants to go to U.Chicago.
