I feel like I screwed myself over

I don't have any excuse except for myself being a terrible slacker and not getting things done properly. My freshman and sophomore year I think I got around a 3.0 gpa. I'm currently in my junior year and my first semester is almost over but I've really hurt myself with bad grades because of my slacking during the first quarter.. I'm currently at a 2.0 simple GPA and once I get back to school for break (jan 9) I'll only have two more weeks until second semester starts up again.

I didn't take any honors or AP's during freshman and sophomore year but I'm taking AP lang and comp and honors US history this year.

I'm doing particularly VERY bad in AP lang and comp but my grade is raising.. I have a flat D right now but I'm hoping desperately I can raise it up to a C before the semester ends.

I have a C+ in HUSH right now but I can raise that up to a B. I took statistics this year after taking alg 2 my soph year because I'm really bad at math to begin with. I have a B in that class but I'm working on raising it up to an A.

I'm also taking biology as my science this year because I took chemistry first last year (I started off with a language my freshman year) and I have a B in there as well.

Also, I was doing terrible in chinese level 3, I started off on my progress report with an F then I raised it up to a D on my first quarter report card and now it's at a C. I'm not sure if I can help that grade much because I'm bad at chinese but I'm doing my best to raise it up as much as I can.

so if I raise all the grades I feel I can raise, I'd ultimately be around a 3.6 simple GPA?

I've been on my school's JV tennis team and track & field team soph year and this year. freshman year, I was a cheerleader on my school's pep squad. I joined leo club I think my sophomore year but I haven't done too many of the volunteer opportunities because I can't drive and my parents are too busy to take me anywhere (I also do not live very close to my friends so I can't really ask for rides..). I haven't gotten too involved in anything.

I plan on calling up and visiting veterinarians to see if they can give me the opportunity to volunteer around the clinic just to get experience and see what goes on because I'm interested in working with animals. I've been thinking of becoming a vet but if that doesn't fit well for me I'm also interested in psychology.

I haven't taken my SAT I test yet. I've taken SAT prep classes and they estimated I could get about 1730?

I also took SAT II prep class for chemistry and I think I could get around a 650 for it.

as my username points out, I'm desperate to get into the UC system. I just want to see what my chances are of getting in (which i know are probably not that high..) and what I can do to raise my chances.

I'm aware of the community college transfer option but I would kinda rather prefer not to do that if I have even the slightest chance...

if not UC system, is there any other good college/university I could go for?

thank you for your help!

You should go on CC’s SuperMatch or ■■■■■■■■■■ or parchment.com to see what your average GPA and predicted SAT score will do for you. You also have to look at yourself as a whole person. If you were my son I would say you’re not quite ready for the rigors of college … your habits and stats suggest that you will be overwhelmed in the first semester and wouldn’t not do well, and you don’t want to start out with a poor GPA in college.

Get some honest advice from your school counselor or your parents or an adult that is experienced in helping kids find colleges that are good match for where they are now. You seem motivated in this moment, but your myriad of activities and classes suggest your energy level is not being directed in a way that is focussed. Your first priority right now is getting your grades up. Colleges look at that first before they look at your activities, sports, or volunteering at the vets. Find out how to get focussed with your classes and get into a routine where you are doing your homework early and on time and you are getting help with classes well before you are averaging a C or lower in a class. And while it’s nice that you are taking AP classes, it doesn’t help your GPA if you are getting a C in them, so consider reducing your course rigor to non-AP until you can prove you know how to get an A or high B.

flip da burgers

With a 3.6/1730, you should be able to get into Merced and Riverside, and maybe SC.

I’d also like to say that my school is very competetive… we have about 4,000 students which is about 1,000 students for each class. Will this hurt my chances even more since I’m probably not part of the higher percentile rank?

oh and what if I get a much higher gpa my second semester of junior year and senior year? will I still have a chance? I’m really scared for my future and I’m trying to make things work…
