I feel like ...

well

IVC ( our local CC ) has its fall registration on august. i’ll just go there i guess.

:'(

thanks guys but i guess UCSB wasn’t for me.

and a special thanks to tjdabeast for answering my questions.

but my parents sure will be dissappointed… sigh

Amby262roy. DOn’t freak out! Please, just try to at least talk to UCSB and explain the situation. There must be a way.

Tjdabeast- What is with the hostility towards me? I am trying to give amby262roy the advice that I have. You are the one trying to marshmellow her to not be scared of getting her admission rescinded when it most definitely could. You are making a complete generalization about the applicant profile of Cal Poly, the enrolled students at Cal Poly have very similar, if not better stats than those at UCSB. If you want to play a comparison game between Cal Poly and UCSB, I can easily do that and make you feel bad about your school but I wont. This thread is to give your advice to amby262roy so that she can have a realization of the severity of the situation she is in… You’ll have plenty of reasons to cry about your decision to pass up Cal Poly for UCSB when you are sitting in your pile of vodka scented vomit in the glorious Isla Vista ghetto.

Amby262roy- Please don’t get erratic over the situation… I just google’d it and UCSB is very comprehensive when rescinding your admission, if this is the only scratch in this semester I think your not going to be rescinded. Also if you wrote a very detailed and apologetic letter to UCSB explaining why you got a D, you will have a good chance of keeping your admission.

You must remember that the admission UCSB gave you is a conditional admittance… It isn’t absolute. Are you sure that you still cant change your D to a C with your teacher? Exercise all your possibilities.

Does anyone have any evidence to suggest that colleges actually are more likely to cut out students during periods of overenrollment? UCs have had years where they overenrolled a lot, such as UC Davis in 2007, and they all seem to manage by housing triples and having bigger classes.

You started it by sarcastically calling me a genius, genius. And I could have easily accepted my full ride to Cal Poly but unlike you I’d rather lay in vomit and vodka than to be surrounded my mountains. And who is to say that I have to live in IV? I’m pretty sure there are apartments such as Westgate, Santa Ynez, etc. Either way, I’m not sugar coating her situation, there has been many students in her situation and those terms of condition wouldn’t only apply to her and not them.

BestIndaWest

I am pretty sure that i can get my grade up to a C- but i am being proactive and responding the way UCSB told me to : Report a grade lower than a C, asap so i might not get revoked.

btw i am a guy not a girl

lol you honestly turned down a full ride to Cal Poly to go to UCSB on account of location… You realize San Luis Obispo is located less than 10 minutes away from Pismo Beach and the ocean. What are your thoughts on class sizes, job placement, hands-on training, and salary… Congrats on your decision, you are truly a genius.

(UCSB comes in 13th, right behind San Jose State University lol)

amby262roy- My bad lol, I thought you were a girl for some reason, and that is awesome. Yeah a lot of high school teachers will be forgiving with students in these types of situations… Writing a detailed letter to your teacher would be a great idea to give him/her the idea of how important it is that you get a C-.

i never said cal poly is a bad school
heck its right behind MIT, Cal and Stanford in architecture , but i always wanted to go to a UC.

I ABSOLUTELY DON’T WANT U TO THINK THAT I ASSUME SLO IS A BAD SCHOOL

Nope, I didn’t pick it based on location. Whats Cal Poly specifically known for? Architecture, Engineering, and maybe Business? None of those are my majors, so there’s no point in choosing a college where the program isn’t good for me. And I’m not going to base my salary off of a website that does random sampling. I’m planning on graduate school, not only undergrad. Thanks

i have a 68.7 in bio now
the only reason i am worrying is because they might revoke me based on my spring mid-quarter grades

You go by quarter or semester based? If its semester the UCs only receive semester grades.

semester but i am following the contract and “notifying them immediately” after i saw the grade drop to a D+.

this D+ wont appear on my transcript hopefully

Grr, I donno dear. Once the school year is over call them. We would have been great train buddies (I live in North Tustin).

i have 1 % EC going in so a 69.7 and i have projects so a 71 at the end.

Tj- Definitely true, if you are in Liberal Arts, UCSB is ahead of Cal Poly without a doubt, but there is rumor that UCSB and Cal Poly are developing a conjoint grad school program together…

But you have to say Cal Poly is very impressive in Agriculture, Business, Architecture, and Engineering… (4 of its 6 colleges)

and it’s Science college right now has above a 70% medical school admit rate which is pretty impressive as well.

amby262roy- Are you saying you don’t even have a D on your final transcript at this moment? haha wow. Get your grade up, request extra credit (it goes a longgg way), and get it to a 70%. It can’t be impossible… Why did you contact the admissions office if your grade isn’t even final yet?

BestIndaWest

this is what it says on the UCSB condition of admissions

Complete all courses with grades of “C” or better in your senior year. Notify the Office of Admissions immediately if you earn a grade below a “C” in any ‘a-g’ (academic) course. If you notify us promptly, we may be able to offer some alternate preparation that will allow you to maintain your admission.

I don’t want my admission revoked so I am staying safe by contacting.

*********,
Please email me at the end of the semester with your final grades as we cannot make any decision with quarter grades. We will review your grades then, thank you.

Well atleast its not a rescind on the acceptance.

This isn’t the time to sit around and mope or passively “hope”, it’s the time to act!! What are you doing this week to improve your grade? And how many hours do you spend per week studying for the class?

What am I doing?

I am currently working my ass off for labs and EC.
I am trying to get my grade to a C-
