I'm worrying about my Junior year schedule, nothing's going the way it should.

I don't have enough APs. I have two. Just two. This can't be good for ivy league schools. I WANT to take more but my school doesn't offer many.

As for now, here is my schedule:

AP Lang
APUSH
Spanish 4 Honors
Pre-Calculus Honors (They wouldn't let me skip to AP Calc, arggg!)
Physics Honors (Again, no AP offered.)
SAT Prep
Computer Ventures 1 and 2 (I plan to major in computer related things so I thought this would be great to show what my passion is.)

I wanted to toughen up my course load but I can't because there isn't enough space. I'd LOVE to take AP Statistics and AP Economics right now but noo! I could've taken AP Env. but I hear Physics is better for computer engineering. Plus, self-studying for AP is a pain because my school requires you to find a teacher to make sure you know the stuff (I'm probably self-studying Computer Science AB next year..if all works out. I want to tell the dean that I want to do more but that'll probably make her angry)

I'm taking C programming thru EPGY starting in July. I founded the computer club at my school which is set to launch in September. I plan to raise money for tech related things. I'm part of the foreign language club, A/V club, NJHS (Officer), and plan to be in Garden Club and NHS next year.

Is there anything else I could do to boost my stats? There isn't much I can do with the classes either. Do you guys know if the VHS online school thing is free? I couldn't find the prices anywhere on the site. I feel like this school isn't...good..enough. I wouldn't mind transferring to the local private school (Tabor Academy) but we can't get financial aid and it's really expensive.

Umm, you could always drop SAT Prep... I'm betting that's a pretty easy (and pointless) class.

Honors Physics? Just self-study AP and have the teacher do the self-study rule thing.

Honors Spanish 4? Just self-study AP and have the teacher do the self-study rule thing.

Passion for computers? No one would be able to tell that from your self-study AP Comp Sci, taking C programming, and founding two or three computer related clubs.... Just drop "computer ventures" and take an AP, if you want.

You could find a nice teacher who think the self-study rule is BS and have them be the one to make sure you're learning the material. Don't worry about making people angry; they're idiots if they get angry.

But I must say, even with a couple more APs, you have absolutely no chance of getting into a good school. After all, there's tens of thousands of juniors taking 8 APs. Maybe if you joined 6 more clubs, it would even out.

Yeah, just because it's not called "AP," doesn't mean you can't take the test if no actual "AP" class is offered.

Actually, you're in better shape then I was junior year (last year). I only got to take one AP junior year, and now my dumb school is changing practically all the NAMES of our APs to "Honors," which is still the highest level.

Don't sweat it (something I should have done--not sweat it is). In the end, the colleges you apply to should know your course offerings. If anything, you could explain in a letter your situation...the classes offered to you I mean.

I only took 2 APs--and no math class--my junior year, and I got into Stanford. Then, my school only offers 9 APs (I did 7 in all) and the only math class left for me to take was AP Calc. And we probably offered fewer APs last year than this year... I know they added one or two to make it 9.

So don't worry too much. And for God's sake, drop SAT Prep. I really don't think colleges like to see that your scores are a result of being coddled through the process by a prep class. I know I would look at that on your transcript and not take your scores as seriously, if I were an admissions officer.

I think it's a good idea to self-study some of those APs for whose subjects you are taking honors classes or know a lot about. I think iin77 gave you some good advice, his/her sarcasm notwithstanding. ;)

On a side note: Garden Club? Is that what it sounds like it is? If so, that is SO COOL! I wish my school had one! :D

Ummm... there are few people at our so-called "AP-cultured" school who take 8 AP tests in one year. 2 AP's junior year are perfectly fine, as long as the other stuff is above the above-average.

Are you joking?

It's not your fault if your school doesn't offer any more APs. Schools want to see that you're taking on the most difficult course load that your school offers. If that's all your school offers, then so be it. Just do your best with what you have.

(yes, I know it was just quoted)

O_o Well I guess I'm doomed then. :P It really depends on what your school offers.

Why are you taking C if you're planning to self study Comp Sci AB?

Why are you aiming for Ivys if you plan on going into comp eng?

What's computer ventures? If its some joke class like Computer Applications, you'd be better off not taking it.

Yup. They maintain the school garden and go on trips to Boston.

2: Like I said, I'll be self-studying the AP so I'd like to at least some background on C.
3: I was thinking about going to UPenn's Engineering school. Also, by aiming for the Ivys, I'll have a better chance of getting into other good schools (Cooper Union, Stanford, etc).
4. It's based around computer hardware/software and we get a chance to get A+ certification.

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone. I will drop SAT Prep and replace it with either AP Statistics or AP Economics.
