I'm currently a first-year student at Stetson University in Florida. I'm a Psychology major interested in minoring in communications or film production. Unfortunately, as nice as this university is, I can't afford to go here next year. I graduated with a 3.4 GPA in High School, over 100 hours of community service and extremely active in 5 different clubs. But, the part that messed up my chances of getting admitted into the state school I applied to were my low SAT scores (Math: 410, Reading: 520, Writing: 490). I took the ACT twice, the SAT three times. I currently do not know my college GPA because we won't have one until December. What are my chances of getting into a decent state school in Florida that has a great program for what I'm studying?

I’d recommend making a list of the Florida schools you are interested in, then researching them based on how good their programs are and how hard they are to get into. In my search I actually made a spreadsheet. You can put the college name at the top, then list what courses they offer, and what the average accepted GPA and SAT score was. This information is sometimes hard to find but if you make an effort you can find it. Use this to narrow down where you want to apply to and where you think you’d have a good chance.

Good luck!
