Also let me mention that the trig course and pre cal course listed in junior year are each a semester course so they don't factor in to my GPA as much. Also under junior year the Graphics Img. Tech II class is worth 2 credits so it counts as 2 A's on my GPA. Estimated weighted GPA after junior year:
3.85 - 3.90.

My SAT scores: a 730 on my reading, 650 on my math, and 620 on my writing. I am on the varsity ice hockey team, do community service, can list a lot of awards, and have just a few clubs. I am also a minority (Asian - Indian Subcontinent). I am also first generation and my family is in a lower income bracket (don't know if this hurts or helps). So, what are my odds of getting accepted?

to which school are you applying?

well i'm still a junior in high school so i'm uncertain... i'd apply to the school that offers history most likely though, so is that the college of liberal arts?

You'll get in no doubt with a scholarship. College of Arts and Sciences is what you're applying to.

You have a really good chance at being admitted to CAS. If I were you, I'd consider double majoring in something else like compsci or communications - dual with newhouse. syracuse is big on minorities

Not that there's that many asians or latinos there. I was shocked when i saw my frist asian person when i visited. And I might have seen a family of hispanic ppl... but I'm not sure if they were. And they were the ONLY possible hispanic people I saw there, so I figure latinos are a Super Minority there. So sad :( I like my Mexicans. XD

Anyway that's not what I wanted to say.
I wanted to say: If your looking at specific colleges in junior year WOW you're ahead of the game. (Though, ya know, that's where we actually were supposed to start looking.) But are you sure about 6 APs? That's some crazy ****, unless you know most of your teachers will be easy. And if you find it's too big of a course load you may have to drop second semester, and I'm not sure whether that's worse than taking a normal class from the start.

well i'm not worried too hard about the 6 APs I know I can handle it. AP Gov't is easier than AP US History i hear and AP US History was a breeze. AP Am. Lit. is on the same level as my Honors English class (school doesnt offer AP eng. lang. in 11th grade). My Latin teacher keeps saying that Latin 3 is the hardest year and that AP Latin V is not harder than Latin 3. I've heard that the AP Com. Sci. teacher is easy cuz he gives so much extra credit. And my AP Calc AB class is going to be HARD and i know it, but im prepared, plus the teacher is awesome.

The only thing that worries me is doubling up on the sciences senior year... ive been thinking about just taking regular physics paired up with AP Chem... will that look bad?

You're asking me if two sciences will look bad? lol! I didn't take science nor math senior year; I did take another language though.

Don't worry 6 APs +physics vs 6 + honors physicswont look "bad."

I just realized you'll have 7 classes. Wow.
People don't attempt such a curriculum at my school, you'd have to be a f'n genious. (Okay, so that means like 5 people out of 600+ seniors.)

hopefully the rigor of my senior year will help colleges over look the laziness i had in my sophomore year where i opted to take regular earth science instead of honors earth science or chemistry. then i also decided to slack with my math course as well taking algebra II instead of algebra II with trig...

in all fairness though i probably wouldn't have done nearly as well if i had taken those classes sophomore year i would have likely gotten a B in honors earth science or chem if i had taken it that year and also a C+ if i had taken alg. II/trig that year... not because i couldn't have scored higher but just because i was really lazy that year, luckily i've started working a bit harder again this year, still not working up to my full potential though.

I doubt they'll think "ooh look at that, Algebra II! Maybe she could have integrated trig with that at her school and chose not to!" But either way I'm sure the B's better than a C since the algebra w/ trig wouldn't be weighted, right?

And if you think not taking Earth Science honors was a horrible thing to do and it will motivate you to work super hard your senior year... I won't say anything. :) I'm sure that curriculum will help you get into a better school than Syracuse.

Oh I just realized you're asian. Yay for pushy, nagging, asian mothers. If I lived with mine for the past 4 years, I probably would have recieved better grades.

yup the alg 2/trig is an unweighted class that is really tough because they go thru alg 2 in a semester (very quick pace) so they have a semester left over to teach you trig... surprisingly it seems like kids who take the alg 2 and trig separately actually learn the material better because they aren't going through it at such a rapid pace...

also, i'm not asian asian and i think i have it pretty easy compared to a lot of the asian kids whose parents force them to do well and get straight A's... my parents are fairly lenient long as i don't get anything lower than a B on my report card i can do whatever and since i've never gotten anything lower than a B i don't know what they would do if I got a C+... i'd say i'm more motivated by myself than my parents but i know a lot of kids who only try so hard at school because their parents take away all forms of entertainment if they don't

yeah i know ppl like that too. So sad. :( It's like prison. Tis why i chose to live with my dad.
