I think people also forget that they mix and match your SAT and ACT scores. Probably the only school that I have heard that does it. So if you guys say got like 35 ACT math, 730 SAT reading, and like 33 Eng/Wr thats like a 2200 right there.

Yeah they added .5 to every college level course including dual enrolled. I have a friend who was an Indian male from a a school that was already pretty over represented who had a 19?? on the sat. He had a 3.8? Weighed GPA when the average was a 4.0 and had generic extracurriculars. He said his essay was good so maybe that got him in.

Also chessy if you’re in distance calc you should probably feel confident. My friend in that program said they told him ~95% of people in that program who apply to tech get in. I’m guessing that’s because they’ll only let students who they think would be able to get into tech in the program.

That’s fine and all, but there are a good amount of people in my distance class who got in with 1980-2100 on their SATs. However, everyone was in the top 10% of my school.
Everyone here is saying that anything below 2100 on SAT basically has no chance, so I don’t know if being in distance calc has that same credibility.

This year is a whole different beast with the common app. No predicting based on the past. Our fates have been decided and we find out in 6 days. Good luck!

@MichiganGeorgia

I was pretty confident that I wouldn’t get rejected, but I’m still on the fence for whether I’ll get admitted or deferred. Also, where did you hear that GT isn’t looking at UW GPA?

Yeah, they are going to probably ignore UW GPA. It would defeat the purpose. And on their admissions policy they say something like, we will look the GPA your schools send you to evaluate in the context of your school, (did you take the most hardest classes possible). Which sucks for me, since my schools only weights AP 1.25x.

Off topic, but my friend from OOS wants to me to get your guys’ opinion (He said that CC does not work right on his computer or something). I was the one who recommended Ga Tech for him.

Applied, EA, California

He has AP scholar.

Do mind creating a separate thread for it, or posting it on the general discussion page? I’d like people to chance me here. This thread really went off topic…

The purpose of your thread was finished within the first 5 posters. No one else will chance you. Don’t let a good thread go to waste.

May2013SAT if you go to that link I gave in the previous comment it shows in depth at each thing gt is looking at including how they will be looking at GPA.

@Chessy

I don’t think it’s up to you to determine when the purpose of my thread is finished or if no one will respond. You sound like you’re 12. “Don’t let a let a good thread go to waste?” How is this a good thread? And how will it go to waste?

@ Dirtysocks

Is this the link you’re referring to: [Freshman Application | Admission](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission)
If so, it doesn’t say anything about them not looking at UW GPA

It’s a good thread because it did more than satisfy your selfish desire of wanting to know if you will get admitted or not. These threads are completely useless, chance threads. All they do is try to make you feel better. As if anyone on here really knows.
Instead of the useless information that your thread intended to have, we learned about threeofthree’s situation. It spawned intelligent conversation about the way we think Tech evaluates people.

So sir, you are in fact that 12 year old who doesn’t have the patience to wait 5 days.

^ @chessy18 hahahaha you shut him up

If having a chance thread is supposedly “selfish”, “useless”, and “all they do is try to make you feel better”, how come you had a chance thread yourself? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1556744-chance-me-will-chance-back.html Seems a bit hypocritcal to me.

Also, how does having a chance thread imply that I can’t wait 5 days? Posting a chance thread every week means you can’t wait. I’ve waited for three months, I can definitely wait 5 days.

And what did threeofthree’s situation tell you? That qualified students sometimes get rejected? Is that news to you?

@norcrosshigh
He definitely shut me up, when you made a chance thread yourself.

@May2013SAT why are you overreacting? People get off topic all the time on these threads that doesnt mean they derail the main topic. All he wanted to know was a quick opinion on his friends chances, stop being such a baby.

@OP - Honestly I can’t remember where I read or heard that they were looking only looking at the weighted GPA. I thought some where I read that instead of refiguring everyone’s GPA they were going to look at the weighted GPA that was sent on the transcripts… But maybe I’m wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time or the last.:)

Well I know that qualified students get rejected at ivy leagues and elite schools, but I definately didn’t know it happened at Ga tech. I know many seniors last years from my school who got accepted with 2000-2100 SATs, and 3.9-4.2 GPAs, so yes it is very surprising that it happened.

Sorry, I misspoke. I meant chance threads after you have already applied to the school. When I made that thread, I hadn’t applied to Tech and I wanted an opinion preferably from people OOS. Chance threads at this point are near useless, because, 1). You can’t change anything. 2.) The descisions is about to come out, so just hold on.

When I made that thread, I had enough time to actually change something. I took the ACT, and it ended up helping my overall scores. So I should have clarified, but chance threads have their purpose, just not at this moment in time.

The titled of your thread includes “I finally relented” which indicates that you gave up something, and you succumbed to your impatience. Which proves my point, the purpose of this thread is somewhat selfish.

Oh yeah,
[Rigor of Curriculum and GPA | Admission](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission)

3rd paragraph should answer your GPA question.

@norcrosshigh
I don’t think you understand the definition of overreacting, because I just responded to everything he said, just like he responded to everything I said.

There’s a difference between going off on a tangent and asking for your friends chances and claiming that the original intent of the thread is gone, when someone else wants to know their chances as well.

If he wanted to know a quick opinion on his friend’s chances, he could have done so through other, better ways. It’s not a big deal, but it’s annoying. I just don’t understand why he had to go on someone else’s chance thread to ask for his friend’s chances. You can defend him all you want, especially if it makes you feel like you have friends for the first time in your life.

@chessy18
Like I said before, I’ve been debating for a while whether I’ll be deferred or admitted. Maybe relented wasn’t the best word, but I wanted to know an outside opinion to know what to expect and not be as disappointed on Saturday. I know that I can’t change anything, but knowing my chances would help me from not getting my hopes up so high or vice versa. Even if a 100 people responded, saying that I would get in for sure, it wouldn’t make me feel better knowing how inconsistent admissions are.

Maybe the chance threads don’t have a purpose for you, but they do for me. It’s not a big deal, but I don’t understand how asking for your chances is selfish…if it was so selfish, I don’t understand why you responded.

@MichiganGeorgia

I certainly hope that you’re right- that would be a godsend haha

“During the application process, we will evaluate the weighted GPA listed on your high school transcript. Utilizing this method enables us to look at your grades and class selection within the context of your own high school.”

OP- Got this from the link Chessy18 posted.
