I forgot to attach my resume to my Common App. What should I do now? Thank for you help :(((((
Why are you attaching a resume to the common application…can you even do that?
@compmom do you know if a resume can be attached to the common application?
In the activities section of the school, it has the place to attach the resume and I forgot it. What should I do now:(((((((
Why do you need to attach a resume? Is there important information on it that is not contained in your application? What sort of resume? Something special?
Aren’t your activities listed elsewhere on the application?
yeah my resume has detailed information about my activities and some other activities that I did not have enough space to list them in the common app :((
I’m hoping someone else replies. If this resume is about lesser activities, or has information about activities already listed on your common application, perhaps it’s not needed at all.
@Mwfan1921 @MYOS1634 what do you think?
You will be just fine! If you listen to the Yale Admission podcast, they even said that they don’t like students submitting resume since 10 spaces on the Activity list already is enough. Ofc this varies from school to school but the point is the resume is not that important. However, if you are deferred I think you could send that as an update.
Good luck!
Will they accept if I send them my resume through email? Thank youu
I’m not really sure:)) I’m just a student applying to college just like you. But I think you could see on your portal account whether you could send it or not.
However, I truly think not having resume will not make your case any worse:>
Thank you so muchh
you can upload your resume directly on your applicant portal
most will let you upload the resume on the portal, if not I’m sure they will take it through email.
Oh really. I have already sent my resume through email. Should I upload my resume again on the portal? Thank you for your help
There are some colleges that allow it as an attachment.
Most discourage adding anything that is just a repeat of what you have already entered.
Sometimes it helps tie things together for a student. Like showing the progression of an internship to a research position.
It is a place for some students to document workplace learning if that was extensive or other skills or training they may have that is tied to their interest in that college.
My daughter attached a resume for the schools that mention it’s allowed on their websites (WPI and Case Western). She uploaded it directly on the Common App where there’s a place for it in each school’s section. It had info like computer coding languages she knows, more in-depth explanation of some activities and a few activities that didn’t fit on the Common App. She’s only doing it for schools that specifically say they welcome them.
There is not a place to upload your resume in common app Activities section. Some colleges allow you to upload your resume via their questions in common app.
You should upload your resume if all your activities don’t fit on the common app, or need more detail, e.g., work experience. You can also upload your resume if you have more than 5 MEANINGFUL academic honors, and I’m not talking about NHS and AP Scholar. Same rules apply if the school portal allows resume uploads.
You just have to follow each school’s directions. For some schools, like UT-Austin, an expanded resume is a MUST. If they say they don’t want your resume, like UVA, don’t send one.
I forgot to upload my resume in my common app. Should I email them? Thank you
You will be ok.
Did it just get left off of someplace you were EDing? Or was it a whole batch of schools.
It sounds like you already had the max number of activities listed and this was just adding more.
The activities you listed in the common app directly should be your most important ones for that application anyway. Let them focus on those.
As suggested, if you are deferred or waitlisted down the road, then you can send updates and additional material that helps tell your story further.
Also, as suggested, some of the college portals allow you to submit updates or additional information. Think before you add - this is for “awarded a state level honor” or national/international competition.
Because of the word limit in the activities section, I could not elaborate my activities in detail and my resume add much more information about it
Do the schools you are talking about accept resumes? If so, there will likely be a place in the portal to upload your resume. Check each of your school’s websites to see if they accept resumes, or not.
