Like ... For the AP Macro test, I thought I aced it .. totally. I knew every single answers and even in the Free Response, I thought I knew most of it, and the one I didn't know, I even tried to solve it . I left nothing blank and I thought I would get AT LEAST a 4 (I actually thought I would get a 5 on it) , and the result turned out that I got a 3.
However, on the Micro test, I thought the materials were really hard , and I barely got through the multiple choice. I skipped like 10 questions, and I could only answer 2 out of 3 questions on the Free Response, but I got 4.... (expect to get 3)

Same thing happened on the AP Art His, I studied a lot ... and thought that I did really well on it, but I got 2....

However, on the AP english lit, I didn't even bother to study since English has always been my worst subject, I ended up with a 3 ...

i thought i did terrible on Euro and Eng LAng. For Eng i didnt finish the multiple choice section and in Euro i ended up doing really bad on the essays. I thought i would get a 2-3 on Eng and a 3-4 on Euro. I ended up with a 4 on Eng and a 5 on Euro.

I also know people who said they kicked the **** out euro and eng and how it was so easy and most of them ended up with 3's.

haha yes
i thought i killed the ap english exam but i didnt get my 5 that i was totally expecting (got a 4)
i thought i screwed physics and got a 5
history i studied the most for, didnt get a 5 lol
aps suck

I'd like to hear more ctalkers tell stories about getting lower grades than they expected... because this happened to me last year and my friend who didn't study at all got a higher score than me and it made me extremely unhappy and disappointed... any stories would be appreciated

Smart people are less likely to study. They're also more likely to score well on their exams. Conversely, people on the more mediocre end of the scale are more likely to cram, but cramming isn't likely to improve their lot much beyond their natural limit. That's why there is an apparent correlation between people who don't study and people who score well.

How would one even go about studying for an AP exam? I've never had to do it and now never will, so I wouldn't even know where to begin.

MelancholyDane:
I know people who reread the whole textbook, read glossary multiple times, take practice exams, after-school review sessions with cram packets to review material that could be on essays. There are many ways to study without cramming, and I believe what you say in your post to some extent, though it seems like there is a ton of people that I know who somehow do not get the grades they expected, including myself.

i was so nervous going into Euro. i didnt think i'd studied enough (i mean, i read through the test perp book once. thats all i did) Of course, when i got to the test, i had no idea what i was doing. some of the multiple choice questions were on people i'd never even heard of before. and i completely bs'ed my way through the short answers. ended up with a 5. no idea how.

YES, although this has only happened to me on 2 exams.

I thought I did AMAZINGLY on Latin: Vergil. [now this next part, I'm not bragging, just stating the facts that made me think I'd do so well lol] Since I skipped Latin II, I took Vergil in my second year of the language. I was worried because of that, but I received the top marks for my class both semesters, won Latin awards, did great [summa cum laude!] on the National Latin Exam - so I thought I'd do well on the exam even before I took it. I didn't use a review book or anything, but I knew the Aeneid inside and out. Translating Vergil was a breeze. So I go into the exam, and thought I did pretty well on MC [because I'm not as good at prose translations], then ACED the essays. I came out totally thinking I got a 5 [or at LEAST a 4!!], and my teacher and peers all thought I'd get a 5 too. Ummm scores come today, it's a 3. I'm so disappointed.
I'm considering a rescore, because I seriously believe I got higher than that. I know the MC had to be to blame, but I'd like it checked.

Anyway, then on Physics B, my teacher taught us things backwards all year, and I had way too many other things to do than teach myself that class as well, so I was just like.. I hate physics I'm not studying. Stupid, huh. Anyway, I expected a 1 when I walked out of the exam, no kidding. And I got a 3! yay! I know that's terrible on CC, but I'm proud, even though it pretty much gets no college credit :[

I found the Macro test this year VERYYYY difficult, compared to how well i knew the stuff.
I Thought it would be cake, I understood everything in that class and review book beyond well. The test was pretty tricky and difficult though.

Then on micro, I thought I might get a 2 because I didn't quite grasp everything.Ended up it was the test that was cake.
got 5's on both, happily suprised

didnt study for AP lang and comp . didnt have a good teacher.
reviewed rhetoric devices somewhat the week before, meaning i read the list.
i thought i got a 2, actually got a 5!

conversly, thought i got a for sure 5 on bio, but got 4 (still good, i know)

Lol, the first thing I said when I got out of the AP World History test was that I got a 4...

And I did.

Nothing 'funny' about that unless you take into consideration that I only read about half my textbook and everything I DIDN'T read wasn't on the test :D

I took Bio this year and Chemistry last year. I came out of both tests feeling as if my brain had melted, and in the case of the Chemistry test I had actually nearly been failing my class a few weeks earlier until she graded my labs. I barely scraped a B.

it's probably just cuz you got more wrong cuz you didn't skip anything.

i'm always stubborn like that on my SATs. i SWEAR i know all the answers, and somehow i never do. :p
i actually skipped some last time in the reading section, and it actually did help, haha.

i didn't do intense studying for ap ush or ap art history, and i got a 5 on both. for art history, it was one of my favorite classes, and it's what i want to major in at college, so that may account for my good score. i really want to find out the cutoff score for the 5s, since i think i made some pretty bs points on my essays.

in short, i expected a 3 in art history and a 4 in ush, and exceeded my own expectations. however, it could just be that everyone else did worse than usual (rather than me doing better).

to the OP, the thing is u answered everything on the test and u thought it was easy. On the MC section, u probably thought it was easy and answered everything. if u left the questions were u have no idea or challenging blank u wouldve gotten a higher score.
