I got in today with a total financial package of $39,400. I honestly don't know what to say...I never in my wildest dreams thought that after UCLA rejected me that Grinnell would even consider me.

Dream come true.

Dream come true.

For those of you admitted, does pioneerweb in any way reflect that you have been admitted?

Just checked, and no, Pioneerweb is not updated with my decision. It just kinda...came. I'm not complaining!

I never got a PioneerWeb account... I got an early write, but not an account... hmmm.

congratulation to u.
I'm international, so I have to wait until April 1st

I just received my grinnell acceptance in the mail today. It was sent on 3/21..so hopefully everyone will get their's soon :)

I'd gotten the early write, but I got the big envelope today.

It says the only fin aid I'm getting is the 15k per year merit scholarship. If that's all I'm getting, I don't think I'm going to be able to afford Grinnell. :/

^It seems like you weren't the only one.

I was expecting some fin. aid (maybe 10-15k).... they cynical side of me says that my scholarship offer canceled it out.

for me...grinnell's package was really good.

any international heard news? I check the pioneer web, which says the decision will be online in late March. At least,it's a few days earlier than April 1.

somedumbnoob- yeah, that's what my cynical side is saying too! It's just too depressing. Even 10k aid would have been nice. Right now, U of I is still 4k less expensive (only loans from there, though)

Poooooh at being an only child and having parents whose combined income is 120k. x(

Wow, Grinnell seems to be pretty generous, i'm happy for you guys!
For those internationals here - where are you from? I'm also an international but currently staying in US, so I should get the result very soon, maybe even..tomorrow?! I'm so terrified..

i'm from China. good luck to you

@aznprincess525
RD, yes?
where are you? mail takes forever from Iowa, at least it did in the icy winter.

where are all you from? I'm in southern wisconsin and didn't get it today. I hope this isn't a bad sign, because I forgot to send in mid-year reports and received a denial from carleton today that was postmarked on the 21st as well.

2008grad, good luck. i got denied from carleton today too. i hope we both get our acceptance letters from grinnell tomorrow.

pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.

We are also in California. I hope it comes soon. It is a top choice of my Ds.

In theory, colleges do not like it when students haggle with them over financial aid awards.

Problem is, theory is for newspaper articles and "guidelines" posted on websites. It's not real life.

Put together a letter and supporting documents clarifying the situation and the reasons why their offer is unmanageable for your family, frame it in as professional and tactful a manner as possible, emphasize your willingness to work during the school year and during breaks, and don't explicitly give them a specific number you want but say how big the gap is between what you can afford and what you're being given. Never be argumentative, and never make it look like you're haggling ("27k? Really? Hmm, you know, 31k is about what I'm looking for... how about 29k?").

If an aid award is meager enough that it puts you in a position where you cannot attend the college offering the award then it is a de facto rejection of an application, and in a need-blind admissions environment no financial aid office has the ability to overturn the admit/reject/defer decisions of the admissions office. You should always try and dispute an award that comes near bankrupting you. In a need-blind admissions environment the financial aid office has one job: make college affordable for accepted students while managing the pool of money available for the year while maximizing how much the college can make. There's a margin there, and if you have a convincing argument I suspect you'll see a change in your aid offer.

ACCEPTED!!
With very generous financial aid :)

i didn't receive it... u.u
I was hoping to receive this envelope today.. but as I am from Brazil, I guess i'll have to wait much longer... =P
