I get dirty and I study hard. Chances please!

Hi, I am a female from Florida at a very competitive HS.

Class of 2008
GPA Unweighted: 4.0
GPA Weighted: 5.3 out of 6.0
Rank: 4 out of 590
I am taking the most challenging classes available. By the end of my senior year, I will have taken 12 AP courses. I predict an overall average of 4s.
SAT: 660 Reading 680 Math 680 Writing

I have well over 300 service hours.
I have been class secretary for 10th, 11th, and will be for 12th grades.
I have been on varsity softball for four years. Captain for 11th and 12th.
I have played volleyball throughout high school, 11th and 12th on varsity.
I am very involved in debate and I have won numerous regional, state, and national recognition.
I am also an active member of NHS for 11th and 12th grades.

My recommendation letters will be from my softball coach, my english teacher, and my debate teacher. All of these recommendations will be amazing.

My essay worries me a bit. I think I am a great writer though, and I work best under stress so I should be able to write a good essay once I have a good topic.

I am interested in International Relations and Political Science as possible majors for the following universities.

Do you have any other suggestions for colleges?

Brown University
Harvard University
Princeton University
Yale University
Columbia University
(I'm just wondering if they are possible reaches or very far reaches)

University of Chicago EA
Georgetown University
Washington University in St. Louis
UNC - Chapel Hill
Colgate University
Wesleyan University
College of William and Mary

Your SAT scores aren't quite impressive enough for HYP&company. And none of your ECs particularly stand out, except for your debate state/national awards. You should probably emphasize that in your essays if that's an option.

Retake the SAT if you want a lot more of a chance at Harvard, Princeton, etc. You should score 2200+ to hold A lot more of a shot.

Thank you for the input. I am planning to retake the SATs in October mostly to boost my CR and W. Do you think top schools will care if my math score is lower even though I am going into political science?

What are my chances at the non-ivy league schools?

i don't think they take what your major is into account. most of the time you end up switching it once you get to college anyway.
i think if anything's holding you back its ur SAT scores. 1340/1600 just isn't up to par w/ ur reach schools. ur courseload, GPA, and EC's look great though. keep up the good work and write a good essay

Your scores and ECs, plus the fact that you don't appear to be at what would nationally be considered a competitive high school (2020 shouldn't get you a 4.0 UW), make me think that all of the Ivies on your list are BIG reaches. Apply to one. More would be a waste of energy.

I say this because the rest of your list is plenty competitive and I don't think you're going to walk into Georgetown or even William and Mary. And Wesleyan and UChicago both want a particular type of kid. And they will admit you largely off your essays and ECs.

ADD MATCHES. Oberlin, Kenyon, UMich, UWisconsin, Grinnell, Carleton, etc.

God forbid D-Day rolls around and you don't have anything you like.
